As a youth and HS soccer referee, I’ve tried one.
Electronic whistles are the biggest pieces of crap out there. They’re terrible, the pitch is inconsistent, and quite frankly, I ended up trying to put the thing to my lips instead of pressing the button out of force of habit. I won’t use it.

Seems to me that a button could be pushed inadvertently easier that blowing a whistle by accident.
