Continuing with a mini-theme, here’s some more Newman stat porn:

I’d sure like to see what that dude could do with the talent he’ll find around him at UGA, but I’m starting to have my doubts about the season, period.

Every day more people are recognizing CFB is likely to be a no-show this year, but it doesn’t mean we cannot speculate the what-ifs, what else is there to do. My 2 cents is Newman will be pretty good, but not necessarily great as a QB in the SEC. And that is especially true as a “bomber”. The defenses just don’t allow QBs to get comfortable enough to throw the long passes. Nearly all the TD passes I see are short, to medium, distance throws of less that 25 yards from the LOS with the receiver taking it the distance from there. You can be a dart thrower and complete many of those type passes. Even Stafford, who is certainly one of the best QBs as a bomber in the pros, was not successful with long distance bombs at UGA. Jet sweeps, screens, and slants will produce more high yardage TD passes than the big heaves.
