The gap, she is closing.

At least in the minds of SEC East sports information directors:

In AL.com’s 74th annual SEC Spring Football Report, Alabama ran away with the Overall voting in the poll conducted by the Southeastern Conference’s 14 football information directors.

The Crimson Tide, the West Division pick, topped the field with 12 first-place votes and one second for 168 points. East Division pick Georgia, which has been to three title games in a row, received one first-place vote, six seconds, four thirds and one fourth to finish with 149 points, 10 points ahead of Florida and LSU, which tied for third with 139 points.

A school could not vote for itself in either the divisional or Overall poll.

The East Division voting alone says Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs, who have owned their division since his arrival in 2016, are no longer a gimme against Dan Mullen’s Gators, who have dropped three straight in their annual rivalry game.

In the voting of the East Division football information directors, Georgia received five first place votes and one second for 35 points. Florida totaled two firsts and four fourths for 32 points.

I’ll be honest with you here — I can’t figure the math out.  By my count, two firsts and four fourths adds up to 24 points.  So that doesn’t make sense, but, then again, I can’t figure out how seven votes were cast for first place.

I guess that’s how you “no longer a gimme” the SEC East race.

Only division members vote for their own division, and you can’t vote yourself first, so Georgia got 5 firsts and a second (and some other). Florida got 2 firsts (assuming UGA is one of them) and four seconds (not fourths).

    • 5 firsts and one second adds up to 35. 2 firsts and four seconds adds up to 32. A seventh vote for either would increase their totals. Article says an SID couldn’t vote for his school at all, so I still don’t see how there can be seven total votes for first place.

By the way, good to see you drop by. Been a while…

      • I’d imagine that’s a typo in the article about Florida’s “fourth” place votes that should really be “second” place votes. Then the 35/32 UGA/UF totals make sense. Kirby and MuLLLen both voted the other in first, couldn’t rank themselves, and one other coach somehow put UF over Georgia. Gives the Gators 2 and UGA takes the other 5.

FU tears this year will be the tastiest, and saltiest, they’ve been in decades. Even more than 2007, because that was a flash in the pan and we all knew it. Four in a row will mark a true, lasting shift, much like how the 90’s began for us. Nothing the media writes about MuLLLen and his ‘turds makes any fucking sense, but it does make those mouthy bastards extra lippy.

What will happen to all those fragile little minds when we don’t just win this year, but we absolutely dominate them like in 2017 and 2018? Anyone want to place bets on the first “Fire Dan Mullen” post on Alligator Alley? Does it pop up immediately after the game or some time in the 3rd Quarter?

Good… Just more fuel to the fire. One first place vote – that means the rest were split up between UT and UF? P-L-E-A-S-E

Keep pouring the rat poison on UF. Coach Over Rated did say he planned go undefeated this season. I`m thrilled to see the media help. Look no further than UF to see the media is selling click bait not facts. Last season was his chance to beat UGA.

Am I blind or did it say Todd Grantham was the UGA DC? Did 3d and Grantham enter the transfer portal?

  7. Right, so 1st place = 6 points, 2nd = 5 points, etc. down to 6th place = 1 point. Georgia gets 5 first place votes (30) plus their one second place vote (5) is 35. Florida got 2 first place (12) plus 4 second place (20) — Because I think it was a typo in the article that should’ve been four “second place” votes not “fourth place) for Gators. So 35 for Dawgs and 32 for Gators.

I think there are still seven votes; it’s just that there are only six slots. Each of seven SIDs ranks his counterpart schools 1 through 6. That results in a total of seven first-place votes, seven second-place votes, etc.

Wow… okay. We REALLY need baseball to get spun up quickly, because too many of y’all* spent way too much time today tying yourself in knots trying to figure out al.com’s wonky math on how FU could possibly be close to us in an SID poll.

Seriously guys… we need fucking sports. Dang. 😂

  10. We’re really getting desperate. It is not the proprietors fault for sharing information, but it has been progressively going downhill for weeks. In another month they’ll be making up stuff you’ve never heard of.
