Two morning takes

I’ve got a couple of tweets for you to peruse.

One, is Georgia too high or too low here?

It’s not Florida ranking below Georgia that puzzles me.  It’s Florida ranking ahead of Oklahoma that does.  Your thoughts?

  1. The only point in favor of ranking Florida ahead of Oklahoma is the fact that OU is coming out of the gates with a QB in Spencer Rattler who has not played very much at all (3 games in cleanup duty in a redshirt year).

But, otherwise, it’s very suspect to think that the Portal Master and Trask are better than a coach who has gone to the playoffs a couple of times and turned out two Heisman Winners.

I get how a coach/QB relationship impacts a program to a degree but I dont get how someone could rank teams by it? Just doesnt speak to me, and, I dont see how Kirby/Newman could be ranked that high. Kirby presents as a “players coach” in my eye but I wouldn’t attach him to the QB all that strongly.

I think these rankings are sums of the individual rankings rather than ‘synthesis’ rankings. I mean, I have about as much to do with Bama’s QB as Saban.

Does Oregon really have a better secondary than a Kirby-coached, Kirby-recruited DB unit? If so, my hat’s off to them.

Oregon? Really? I guess he’a thinking about it from the perspective of their specific competition this year in the Pac-12, and not, you know, if they get into the Playoff.

As for the other, at this point I just throw my hands up in the air at the media’s myth making on behalf of Sideshow Dan the Clown. He’s a good coach. He’s not a great coach. He’s Jim Donnan. Does anyone actually think Oklahoma would be better off with MuLLLen than Riley? Does anyone aside from that terrible writer in Sakerlina think we’d be better off or the same with Cousin Eddie?

I don’t get it. He took MSU to 8 straight bowls. Wow. There are ten more bowls now than there were when he became coach there. He took a 5-7 team to a bowl during that streak. That’s literally the building blocks of his media made myth.

    I just don’t get it.
