Might not have been the first name I would have thought of, but there’s no question the defensive backfield is a crowded place at Georgia.

  1. I would assume this tells me that Webb is going to be the starter at Star and Cine has the inside track for the job at strong safety. With Stevenson’s year last year, Wilson was going to be pushed to get meaningful defensive stats.

Hate to see him go because he’s been a good player for us. I assume he’s going to get a waiver for immediate eligibility and likely a bigger role if he goes to the U or F(A/I)U.

You’ve got Lecounte and Cine at the Safety spots, Stokes, Campbell, and Daniel at Corner, and Webb, Stevenson, and now Ringo at Star. Crowded room plus good reason to want to be closer to home is a recipe for transferitis. Still got 3 more to go, too.

I could see Wilson landing at Miami, FAU, or even UCF and hope he does well. Good player, certainly our loss but one I feel good about weathering given what else we have to work with.

      • Ringo at star? I figure he is going to be on the outside as the heir apparent to Stokes or Campbell/Daniel. Webb and Stevenson seem to be the guys at star right now.

IIRC Ringo’s size and speed make him a hybrid player who could play multiple DB positions including true corner and more of that rover, nickelback position Star brings (Stevenson is kind of in the same mold)

          • Agree … you’re just the first person who I’ve heard mention him over the slot.

Agree….thought that when we first had him commit. Thought it would be his best chance of seeing the field early. Don’t expect to see him stay there the following year though.

Never seen us this loaded, especially at DB.

Ringo at Star is interesting, might be a great spot for him. He has the build and might be the quickest guy on the team.

I say Stevenson is #1 at star. No way you can keep that guy off the field.

      • I wouldn’t be surprised to see Stevenson take the job.

I know Kirby loves a guy in that role who is willing to stick his nose in the run game. Webb certainly was a good player doing that last year while he was the guy picked on primarily in the passing game.

Tyrique bodies up TE’s like nothing I’ve seen.

If we play anyone that runs 10 personnel primarily maybe you switch it up and go with Webb, but 7 down there in the box is just magical.

You can do anything with that guy.

Thing about Stevenson and Ringo, both, is they can do so many things on defense with their skillsets that you can disguise coverages pretty well with them. Both have the ability to line up and rush the passer, too, from a standing OLB position. James Williams would be different (more an Ogletree/Zo Carter hybrid LB/S) but same sort of principle, you could line him up at multiple spots and confuse the offense.

Speaking of 10 personnel, Stevenson vs Pitts in Jax should be something to see (assuming we get to see it). Win that battle and I see no way Florida manages a meaningful offensive attack against us.

It’s hilarious watching the Hillbillies and ‘Turds talk about how this is the “beginning of the end” for Kirby.

Roster Management is a skill, and using it in this way is why it’s a matter of if not when we win a National Title.

Very talented player. But they are so deep here. Miami kid; Hurricanes would be a good fit. Little doubt the Portal Master will make a pitch. FSU would be a great fit as well…

    • Don’t think he can get the waiver in Tally or Hogtown … of course, I didn’t think JT Daniels would be getting one in Athens this year either. I imagine Kirby ends up fighting a non-grad transfer to Florida. He mentions specifically being closer to home. To me, that would indicate one of the Miami area schools is where he lands with a no-brainer waiver.

I thought he was very impressive and was going to be a solid role player for us.
If he got billy bobbed, all I can say is Wow.

Seems to be entirely a “I want to be closer to home with all this craziness going on” thing. Just so happens to help our roster number. I don’t think he will be the last relatively big name to transfer from a big program, either, as team workouts get underway.

Good player in a very talented position group. Even next year he probably wasn’t going to start.

Funny they would give the tip of their leathery tails to have our former DGD transfer there.

  10. I hate losing a talented player but the D backfield is loaded with guys of equal and more talent. There doesn’t seem to be bad blood, either. I believe Kirby was honest and Wilson made a good career decision and he gets to be closer to home.

I know fans of other schools are playing this in a negative light and they’d have a point of this was a few years ago. This 100% seems like modem recruiting and roster management and the highest level.

    • Good players deserve to play and should leave if the situation doesn’t work out. It’s just a crazy D right now, and he has draft potential

      • I agree. He seems to have a nose for the ball (his pick really changed the momentum in the ND game). Good in coverage and a good tackler. He wasn’t going to take away the star from Webb, Stevenson or Ringo. His best bet probably would have been as LeCounte’s understudy at free safety.

  11. While florida is recruiting 5 star hearts, kirby is overstocked and has a good 4 star transfering. Lol.

And LOVE it that kirby gets is overstocked right now, and then will fully support a transfer. That’s hella good management. I used to say get 87 or 88 and something will happen anyway. So Richt took a self imposed sanction. This is so much better
