(Some) asses in the seats

If you’re making fans wear masks in Sanford Stadium, that must mean you’re allowing them in to see games.

Greg McGarity says Georgia football has “a great plan” for fan attendance at Sanford Stadium that’s in its final stages before release.

Well, some of them, anyway.

The Bulldogs are expected to announce an attendance plan that would allow for between 18,000 to 30,000 socially-distanced fans, pending local health legislation, CDC recommendations and SEC directives.

Let’s see… 18-30,000 allowed in… 92,746 full capacity… subtract the seven, carry the one… hey, that’s a lot of Georgia fans who won’t be able to watch!  I wonder who will be left out in the cold?

Parents of players, major donors and UGA students would be prioritized in the Bulldogs’ scheduling plan, according to sources with knowledge of the plan discussions.

Seat reduction will carry over into the skyboxes and press boxes, as well as general seating.  [Emphasis added.]

It’s not too late to get those Magill Society donations in, Dawg fans.

  1. If (IF) we play on September 26th, there won’t be any fans in the stands.

As many as will be allowed in will be there. Of that I have little doubt.

Depending on who were are playing and the price point, I may be.

(Of course, who knows what “she who must be obeyed” may say about that? We’ll see. The life insurance premium is paid up so maybe there’s a chance…)

I wonder if they’ll allow the band? Those could be some prime money-making seats…

Kicking the can down the road so they hold onto our money longer. The amount of interest they are making is significant.

At current rates, it can’t be much. Certainly won’t offset the loss of revenue from fan attendance.

I wonder what the threshold for infections is before they cancel everything. Wonder what they consider acceptable 5% – 10% – 20% of the team infected.

Seems fair. Glad they are letting the students attend.

Yeah, that was a decent surprise. Though I’m sure “top donors” and “recruits+recruits’ parents” are getting priority over students.

Honestly, I resigned myself long ago to the possibility that I wouldn’t be going to any games. I’m pretty low on the priority list, I expect I’ll get one game. I suppose I should be happy they’re planning to play at all. Now we wait to see how they’re going to reimburse us. Preferably, just roll over everything into next season, including the Hartman Fund donation, which they’ll no doubt ask us to generously allow the AA to keep.

How else should the school decide who gets those tickets? Alphabetical order? Perhaps some sort of physical challenge obstacle course? We’re not really mad about the people who pay the most to the athletic department being at the front of the line, are we?

Ooh, I like the idea of an O course. It’s been awhile since I did it on Parris Island, but with some training I’m sure I could beat out most of the older donors. That first bar always gave me problems, though.

Other ways may be by prioritizing alums of the university or by making length of time buying tickets a factor.
When I began buying season tickets in 1980 the AA made both factors along with amount of donation in establishing a priority

Your alumni status is already factored in to your Hartman score.

I agree with prioritizing access. The hangup I have is that there is no way to space out the seating if they provide access back to my renewable location. So, I will be more than pissed if they try to hang on to my section 107 donation and stick me in the 600s. Should’ve done the Michigan plan.

Castleberry, I did not know my alumni status is factored into my Hartman Fund score. How is it factored? It seems the increase in my score each year is just the amount of my contribution.
I sincerely am asking how it is factored

Don’t laugh, but you get 50 extra points in your cumulative score. Seriously. At least, that’s what I remember from 1998. Just checked online and it looks like the donation records go back to ’08.

Conspiracy Theory: I think the push back to Sept 26 is so schools can put the players in a “bubble“ after all the students get sent back home by Labor Day. UGA & ACC will trainwreck things in Athens spectacularly by the third week of Aug, just wait. The few faculty members I know literally (and by literally I really mean for real) think the universe is going to die once the students return. Somehow all the believe science crowd can’t crunch the numbers around COVID. Also, the fact the population we have in the Educational System at all levels that appears to be in the sweet spot for this virus is pretty distressing. The SEC pushing back to see what the NFL does is on paper a wise move, I’m skeptical they can use it wisely, though.

In my mindspace, I gave up on attending a game this season a couple months ago but plan on giving my 2 tix (if I get any) to any students I know that don’t get any. Maybe freshmen to piss the upperclassmen off, lol.

I’m really curious to see what kind of seating arrangements they come up with. Assuming they’re spacing people out to maintain social distancing, using the entire footprint of the stadium, that means you’re going to have people sitting a few seats apart up in the nosebleeds even. And how much fun is it going to be if each of your friends/family members have to sit several seats apart from each other?

I am standing by for the email asking us to send more money in now so I can be considered a MAJOR DONOR for the 2020 season… with no indication for the threshold they’ve already set.

There is a Magill Society webcast this afternoon – I’ll report back afterwards.

Early indications are that we’ll be limited to 8 tickets per Magill Donor per game which sounds like it will use up the entire allocation for non affiliates (player families, recruits and their families, etc).

The good news for the common man is that there might be a few upper level end zone seats put out for bid by the university.

The better news is that there is no ambiguity about the deductibility of your Hartman donation this year, assuming you peasants itemize on your measly tax returns

For the first time in a very long time, I won’t get to attend a game. That breaks my heart, but the worst part is missing out on Georgia Florida. I love that weekend in Jacksonville so much. I just hope we have college ball to watch. I don’t want to wait until next year to see my beloved Dawgs.
If we don’t have football this year, the next time me and my friends get drunk and cuss at the TV will be the election!
