“In 2017, the American Athletic Conference made a unilateral decision to cancel our game against Memphis within weeks of its scheduled date for their independent desire to play more conference games,” Georgia State athletic director Charlie Cobb said in a statement to The Tuscaloosa News. “To their credit, the cancellation fee was paid promptly, primarily recognizing the hardship this last-minute decision placed on us.
“We expect Alabama to do likewise as they have significantly more resources than Memphis.”
Aside from the enforceability of the clause, welshing on a obligation based on something engineered by the organization you belong to is probably not a good look if you want to do business with cupcake programs down the road.

Personally, I think GA State will be left hanging…and rightly or wrongly I think future cupcakes will keep coming back and playing these div 1 powerhouses…a. They need the money b. They like playing large packed houses (under normal conditions) c. There is a sliver of a chance you shake up the world…ie. app state and become the media darling for a week or two

I agree they are pretenders but even though less talented these schools may be the last bastions of what football ( if they can survive athletically was. I grew up watching the old Southern Conference games, although they weren’t ever on TV it was still a docent ticket price where you could drive 30 minutes and be out of the stadium. These games have more of a local town flare. No corporate sky boxes, no TV timeouts, there is plenty of space to tailgate and nobody bitches and parking is free. My drive to Sanford Stadium is over 4 hours and at least a 2 hour wait in traffic. Last game I paid $75 to park.
My first season ai had to stand on the bridge or sat on the tracks. Seems to me with this “WE ARE UNITED” of the left coast, the inability of the NCCA to be anything but be money mongers and the changing platitudes of the game itself. In basketball it’s the one and done, football 3 years and it’s on to the show.
I have the upmost regard for Chubb and Michel which came back for their senior season and little regard for those who leave early and don’t even sign a free agent contract. So my question to all is The University of Georgia a academic institution or just a semi-pro league. The ACT and SAT have been waved because of COVID. Talk of doing away with all this is common place now as for equality ratio going in college admissions. Remember struggling and waiting to see if your score would qualify?
I regret not having a season or maybe have a partial one. In reality this COVID might just be a slap in the face and slobberknock some sense into what universities and colleges are about.
Sometimes our love of the game overrides any sensible, rational thoughts of what once was is never going to be again. The point is that most have more $$$ than they have sense.

I wouldn’t hold my breathe. Might want to figure out how to ‘play nice’ or you could have an entire conference decide that your sports program doesn’t get to play in their world. Yes, I believe that it will get that petty out there.

I agree. My friends in mid-major athletic departments tell me that there is no way they would piss off the power 5 schools by asking for their money. Work out a deal. Fact is the Group of 5 are going to be hit harder than any other level. FCS schools will struggle, but not to the extent of the Group of 5s. The power 5s have all the money…why would you piss them off?

All of college football is a minor league for the NFL. The SEC and Clemson is the AAA farm league, the rest of the P5 is AA, the rest of FBS is A, and the FCS is Rookie League.
