There has been some social media chatter that the process has been held up because Alabama and Florida complained about being scheduled to play each other, so that’s something to keep an eye on.

UPDATE:  Here are the additional games.

Looks like ‘Bama and Florida got their wish.

Let us all be gracious when it’s announced on a national level that the tide and the lizards are both cowards.

I want to be hopeful. I do. I don’t want to be cynical. I hate being cynical.

Then I remember who our AD is, and cynically I have no hope.

I’m guessing it’s because he has friends in high places. Like Brian Kemp for starters. Vince Dooley for another. And he keeps the Big Money Boosters happy.

Who gives a shit about the rest of us, right?

I have mentioned before that the math works out to the chances of their being a Revolutionary style even (think American Revolution, the Civil War) in one’s lifetime is about 18%. The chances of something hugely major like the Great Depression, WW2, or our current Pandemic is virtually assured in one’s lifetime. Despite all of the protestations from the fan base, McGarity prepared shit hitting the fan. Shit and the fan have met. We are in a better fiscal situation than literally every program in the country. Alabama and the Texas schools are legit envious right now. That is why he has a job.

The fact that so many Georgia fans expect McGarity to go on national television and cut a Ric Flair style promo demanding that Florida play Alabama is really quite juvenile. It says a lot more about the fan base than it does about McGarity.

  4. I’m sure ADGM will jump in and volunteer to flip the Auburn game to away and go to Baton Rouge as a way to make it up to the people at his former employer.

If the Bammers and the Handbags don’t play this year, put the conspiracy theory to rest about the SEC office’s treatment of Alabama … it will be real.

The senator implies that both schools’ AD’s object, so not only does Alabama get their typical treatment, the UF AD will out bully McGoofy by a mile. Our only hope is that Kirby jumps on the call and calls them out.

      • I 100% believe Kirby cares about Georgia and our schedule but he also had no problem with the Auburn game moving. He also likes playing a big opener which may mean costing a big home game. Mitts a real tough balance between giving fans good games and protecting the team for post season. But I think if it was a really really bad deal he probably would call it out as BS

  8. Bright Idea

Trying to legislate a national championship by gerrymandering the revamped schedule seems pointless to me. This is one year everyone should just enjoy any games that get played. The NC will have an asterisk anyway.

There is a huge consideration here that I think is being overlooked.
    Money money money money…MON-E!
This is the SEC’s opportunity to force inter-conference matchups that are sports television dream$.. UF vs Bama…UGA vs LSU..and such.
If you are an upper tier SEC team, you are a prized ox and you may be about to be put to the plow in a hard way.
“With the stadiums empty and a short season, we really need the money” should be reason enough.

There would be no more money for scheduling better (harder) games precisely because there are no fans in the stands. The TV money is already negotiated. They don’t get more money for having better games with better ratings.

Look to what the B1G did. They gave their top-3 ranked teams easy schedules to have the best chance to make the playoff and have the most NY6 bowls. THAT is where the chance for more money will be made this year.

      • Yea, but these games are “new” and will (likely) necessitate some small amendments to the contract with media partners.

I don’t think so, because the inventory of games played by SEC teams, even with these 28 conference games, is still down 28 games overall.

        OK..I”ll by that.
        With a question….
So where does that leave UF? Georgia, Alabama, LSU and Auburn all have legitimate claims to being top tier SEC programs and maybe a break in the scheduling to give them a hand-up….while UF has little evidence (other than the delusion of their fanbase) that they deserve to dodge the big boys.
I don’t think UF has any better claim to “not hurting their championship aspirations” than does TAM or Kentucky.
UF , you’re just not as special as you think you are.

FU’s ADs tend to be more forceful with the SEC Office than ours does.

They tend to get what they want.

McGarity just bends over and takes it.

I hope they do play. Frankly I hope we get LSU and A&M just because it would be so awesome to watch. Even if it makes the playoff (or whatever it is this year) that much harder to reach. It would be nice to play a great (like reeealy great) schedule for a change.

    • I really don’t even care if we have a playoff this year . Winning the SEC this year, if it can be played out, would be glorious. Bring all comers. Imagine being the only team in history to go 11-0 in a season vs. the SEC. Even cooler if the SECCG was a non re-match so that you literally beat 11 other SEC teams in 1 year.

      Dare to dream.

Yeah, I understand our hope is to draw one of the MS schools and Arkansas, but part of me just wants to see what this team has got. If they play, and most of the players buy in, we’ve got some special moment ahead of us this year.

I’m just tired of the season being a maximum of 2-3 games truly contested beyond “upset alert” or “well that’s why they play the game” type games. 3 games is probably pretty generous, really, and that’s in a good year. Just a damn year in year out slog of “beat your one or two true competitors and beyond that just try not to stub your toe on the way to the SEC”.

BCS, playoff… and whatever else has contributed to a “national championship or bust” mentality. But the biggest thing is the weakness of schedules nationwide. Look at us in 2008; only 3 losses but they were the only 3 games that mattered. 10 wins, shit season.

And it’s worse since expansion. Even the SEC schedule is weak now because we added two middling at best big 12 teams (who do occasionally punch above their weight… it so do Arky ole miss, and everyone else in the middle of the SEC), and simultaneously reduced the amount of times the heavyweights from East and West play each other.

There seem to be fewer big wins because there are in fact fewer big games. So it’s about impossible to have a “good season” when you don’t at least win the SEC.

Real change to scheduling nationwide or even in the SEC ain’t happening any time soon. So I’m happy we’re replacing some fluff with two SEC games. Great. But the bigger the games the better. Give me LSU and A&M. Give every other highest ranked school the highest ranked schools you can give them. Give me some damn football!

I get what you’re saying, and sometimes think that way. I’ve said something akin to, “No one in CFB history has more meaningless 10-win seasons than Mark Richt.” It’s probably Mack Brown, but Richt gets the knock for not having a ring. But the other end of that is, well, in 2008, if we played two more SEC games, would it be better to finish 7-5 before the bowl game?

I think perhaps the best thing that can come from this season is the possibility of a 9-game conference schedule for the SEC and ACC. Once Micky sees how many more people watch these games as opposed to all the cupcakes, they’ll insist that on the new TV contract for next year that the SEC switches to a 9-game conference schedule which will stop the ridiculous talk of ending 100+ year old rivalries (Georgia-Auburn, Bama-Tennessee) by bringing back two extra-divisional games for the first time since Mizzou and TAMU joined. Meaning every player if they stay four years will get to play every SEC team at least once.

If the SEC does this, I think we’ll settle into a nice system of 9-conference games, 2 P5 non-conference games (one of them the NATS), and one cupcake (always in the penultimate week before rivalry week) to keep money flowing to G5 and FCS to keep those programs and opportunities alive.

I think I can live with that. The only problem from our end is rearranging all the new games we scheduled so we’re not playing a 12-game schedule of P5 teams every year for the next decade.

What DOES make UF think that they’re worthy of special consideration? They haven’t won the conference in over a decade and have never appeared in the NC playoffs since it started in (I think) ’14.
Treat them like Tennessee or Kentucky..that’s what they are.

I actually like seeing UF terrified of a harder schedule. It says a lot about the actual confidence they have in their program right now. If they were the world beaters they claimed to be over the spring, they would be willing to play anyone.

If they played ‘Bama ando lost, they could then tout their losses to UGA and LSU as evidence they only lost to the big teams and would try to ride that pony onto their fan’s blog and claim top ten team status.

Of course they don’t see Ky or Mizzou coming this year and both those teams stand to tear them up defensively and have a good chance to lay winning points on their conning ass. That ought to shut up their deceptive self-image grunts and send their pig of a coach searching for more acorns to pin his self-serving hat onto. Fuck FU.

I know this would never happen but with this college football season being an exception it would have been interesting to put the scheduling into the CFP Selection Committees hands. The schedules could have been done to where the teams in the preseason top 10 could have had the hardest schedules since everyone is playing the type of schedule. You wouldn’t have complete parity due to conference strength, but Clemson for example should have to play the top 3-4 preseason favorites in the ACC.

Here’s the BIG big news – There will be entirely new dates (TBD) for every game on the schedule.

Bama gets Kentucky at home and Mizzou on the road. I guess Bama and FU got their way. They don’t have to play each other. Fucking assholes.

We go to Arkansas. And Floriduh gets Arkansas at home. Man, the SEC completely fucked Arkansas to appease FU and Bama.

Auburn has to go to Sakerlina and gets Tennessee at home.

FU has to go to TAMU. And gets Arkansas at home. It’s not Bama. Fucking assholes. I hope they go 6-4.

We get Arkansas on the road. We get Mississippi State at home. Mike Leach bringing the Air Raid between the Hedges!

Kentucky gets Bama on the road and Ole Miss at home.

LSU gets Mizzou at home and Vandy on the road. Wow. So again, to appease Bama and Floriduh, the SEC totally fucked Arkansas and Mizzou.

Ole Miss gets Kentucky on the road and Sakerlina at home.

Missy State gets Vandy at home and us on the road.

Mizzou. Poor Mizzou. Bama at home and LSU on the road.

Sakerlina gets Auburn at home and Ole Miss on the road.

Tennessee gets TAMU at home and Auburn on the road. Yeah, Tennessee ain’t doing much this season.

TAMU gets Floriduh at home and Tennessee on the road.

Vandy gets Vandy at home and Missy State on the road.

What do y’all think? FU and Bama definitely worked over Greg Sankey, didn’t they?
