David Ubben and Seth Emerson ($$) look at the talent gap between Georgia and Tennessee here. Warning: it ain’t pretty, if you’re a Vol fan.
The secret to Kirby’s success, per Seth?
The reason for that is because Smart is so single-minded and focused on recruiting that if they do have a bad year in recruiting, that position coach is going to hear about it. He may be fired. He may be the one guy on staff who doesn’t get a pay raise. There is constant pressure on these coaches to recruit well at every position.
If nothing else, that should tell you how much Smart realized he had to upgrade the OC position after last season. Coley’s not in College Station because he had a problem recruiting.
Tennessee is going to surprise some people this year. But not Kirby.

Agree, they are always a threat…even in their down years. Hate them worse than any, but that is easy to….it’s their fans, they are 2nd to none.

How do QB work with a higher composite, but lower stars?

Is Georgia’s QB rating brought down by Stetson Bennett and Muschamp’s kid? Otherwise, shouldn’t it be in the 4-star blue chip range?

Muschamp’s kid is a walk-on and doesn’t count.
Newman is a three-star recruit.

Ah, okay. Thanks for the explanation!
Props to Newman then. Like Eric Stokes and Deandre Baker (good Lord why… but that’s for another day), he’s outstripped his 247 composite ranking through hard work and force of will.

It’s definitely not The Temptations and more like “Jordan Davis and the Pups,” if you can appreciate the musical reference.
The no-name part of our no-name defense comes from those d-lineman, who will all be subbed so much anyway that we may never know their names.
