Race against the clock

Shot.

Chaser.

Two thoughts here:

  1. A reliable, inexpensive, easy to administer COVID tests would be huge, both for society as a whole and for college football’s 2020 chances.  It’s the first real thing I’ve seen that justifies Greg Sankey’s take it slow and hope approach for playing.
  2. But… but.  Can they buy enough time to get this into the mix?  Even Mark Emmert admits that bubbling the players is the best way to keep them safe.  Yet, every SEC school is about to embark on a course of letting them be exposed to a general student population that isn’t fastidious about staying safe.

I’d say it would serve Sankey and his presidents right if their selfish adherence to their business model costs them a season that was salvageable, except that means we fans don’t get one, either.  And that would truly suck.  Get your shit together, folks.  Please.

I foresee Auburn having to miss or reschedule at least one game if the student environment remains as described.

And yet, why does Stew Mandel and all his buddies continue to ignore a cardiologist from the University of Michigan? Is it because he’s willing to go on record and isn’t a shadowy unnamed source?

Seriously though, Dr. Venk Murthy says this study is garbage, and it’s the main reason why the Big Ten and Pac-12 cancelled their season, and he’s completely ignored by sports writers. You’d think it would be newsworthy. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was in Boone yesterday which was move in day at app state. On campus everyone I saw was wearing a mask. Off campus not so much.

Also the few students I saw at West Virginia were all wearing masks last week. Although they were about the only people in the entire state wearing a mask.

We’ve just become numb to the toll.

Which means every fresh piece of good news is going to buy the season a couple more weeks. I honestly don’t see anything stopping the season now unless something convinces a critical mass of players to opt out. A rash of player hospitalizations, something along those lines.
