Out of the gate

Here’s Pete Fiutak’s early take on Georgia’s opener:

Georgia at Arkansas

Knee-Jerk Instant Analysis: New Georgia starting QB Jamie Newman – that’s a projection, by the way – looks the part right out of the gate as he carves up the Arkansas secondary on the way to an easy win. The downfield passing game will get Dawg fans fired up right out of the gate.

It’s not that Arkansas will be awful; it’s that Georgia is that good with a defense that will shut everything down hard in the second half after Newman generates a few big plays early.

First Thought Prediction: Georgia 41, Arkansas 10
First Thought Line Guess: Georgia -26

Thoughts?  I’ll just say that the last time Feleipe Franks faced a Georgia defense, he was playing with more talent than he will be playing with in a month or so.  And that didn’t go too well.

My guess is Kirby shows just enough to keep Auburn guessing. Second half we go to ground and pound to speed the game up to try not to make Sam Pittman`s first home lose too ugly.

I hope I don’t walk away with the feeling (hope) that we’re “saving it” for next week ever again. Although, I guess saving it all season for Baylor worked out.

Look, there’s a reason Franks lost his job at Florida and it isn’t because Kyle Trask is a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate. If I were him, I’d fake some COVID symptoms until the Bulldogs leave town again.

I don’t think Arkansas can move the ball against UGA’s D, so points will be slim. I could see a garbage time late TD to get to 10 though.

      One more thing….

Monken will want as much film as possible of his contributors, so he knows what needs to be fixed. Newman is going to get pulled after the half, but a lot first and second team players will be in the entire game.

Bottom line is UGA will score a lot of points.

Reps against ark should have intent written all over them, not with intent to run up the score, intent meant for positive play calling, UGA staff/team needs to see what needs to be cleaned up, what plays are successful in certain/situational down and distance calls, special teams play….not much to go over in the team meetings when there are 3 hand offs and punt….the first 2/3 games are live action practice, kinda’/sorta’….

Franks chose Arkansas knowing he wouldn’t have to face UGA again. Then covid happened.

Kirby doesn’t care for giving up garbage time points, and I think this defense will want to prove themselves on the field out of the gate. I’ll be pulling for a shutout.

The disparity in talent in the first string will be embarrassing. And it will only grow as reserves hit the field.

Arkansas does not score, and repping the new offense with the 2nd’s and 3rd’s will continue to love the ball. Kirby won’t be running it up, but this still ends up a 40+ point differential.

I could go with a 2016 ole miss type beat down for the new coach… 31-0 at half or whatever it was then cruise
