Today, in stick to sports

Shot.

Chaser.

“While Coach Lou Holtz is a former coach at Notre Dame, his use of the University’s name at the Republican National Convention must not be taken to imply that the University endorses his views, any candidate or any political party. Moreover, we Catholics should remind ourselves that while we may judge the objective moral quality of another’s actions, we must never question the sincerity of another’s faith, which is due to the mysterious working of grace in that person’s heart. In this fractious time, let us remember that our highest calling is to love.”

Now, if only Mark May would weigh in.

  1. Lou Holtz is in fact, a douchebag who left every place he ever coached in awful shape.

I’m no Drooling Lou fan, but he’s pretty accurate about the Biden/Harris abortion stance. Impugning their faith is a light blow in today’s political dialogue. He made Notre Dame do some rhetorical razor walking there; nothing wrong with that.

Well, sure. At least he didn’t call them Muslims.

      Weak sauce, man.

My comment was no weaker than what you served up.
        Muslims? WTF?

        • ND quickly distanced itself from its (former) national championship football coach who invoked the school’s name while he ineptly made a point about being anti-abortion. I don’t think they took Holtz’ comments as a light blow against Biden, who is, by all accounts, a practicing Catholic. YMMV, of course.

          • Lou Holtz simply mentioned what he asked some of his former players and where he was when he did it. Notre Dame was stupid for needlessly injecting themselves in a Political argument. It was obvious that their former employee was not speaking for them. Either the ND president is a media whore or he wanted to make a political statement by his actions.

While I’m no Lou Holtz fan, he’s absolutely right to say Bien is a “catholic in name only.” Anyone with even a passing understanding of Catholic catechism knows that Biden’s public actions and positions violate many of the fundamental Catholic teachings. He can call himself a Catholic all day long, but Lou is correct that it’s in name only. Lou didn’t call him a non-Christian, which WOULD have been problematic. Biden can still be a man of faith, even a Christian; but he’s in violation of many basic Catholic teachings, which makes him…..not a Catholic.

The “Obama-Biden” ACA substantially extended coverage for contraception including long term IUDs and implants. Since then, abortions and birthrates have both declined. Fewer unwanted pregnancies means fewer abortions. Duh. Trump-Pence, on the other hand, seek to limit access to contraceptives. Just because Lou Holtz says it’s so does not make it true.
