I had forgotten about that. Bama showed up to play that night with a big ass chip on their shoulder.

I haven’t. Man they flat kick our collective asses in the first half of that game. I don’t know which one was worse that game or the shellacking we took in 2015. I will got wit 2015 because of the torrential rain.

That night completely changed the football trajectories of both schools for a decade.

Hoo boy. I guess I block things out as a coping mechanism, but I remember seeing the tweet (I think it was here on GTP) and saying to myself: “Uh-oh…” and thinking CMR was way too… It’s hard to describe… unconcerned, maybe?

That Georgia team’s attitude was that they were just going to show up and win because they were Georgia and they were really good last year. Alabama came in and just absolutely dump trucked a really good football team and they rode the wave of confidence from that win (and obviously a lot of wins that followed) to a decade of dominance. Georgia, meanwhile, definitely saw its shadow that night and I don’t think we ever fully got our confidence back until Kirby got here. The Dawgs were special in 2011 and 2012 and were obviously a play away from a national title game appearance in 2012, but that beating Alabama gave us just echoed for the rest of Mark Richt’s tenure, I really believe that.

Exactly! Separated the men from the boys.

Two things here, Kirby Smart is a UGA guy, realizing he did his note taking/understudy/ojt with little nicky(at bama)…(good path) if he ever considered doing funeral talk, I’m the card caring, margarita drinker in the front row… Coach Cochran is a different dude, different style of motivating, players guy, sort of a robust loud mouth, if you will, on the other hand, he’ll have to deal with that statement while at UGA….tru dat on the ass whippin’ in 2008…there is hype/motivation/”till they get punched in the mouth” reality…

They kicked our ass so completely
    1) it changed the trajectory of both programs as someone else mentioned
    2) we haven’t beaten them since in 5 tries, ALL contests taking place in the state of Georgia
    3) we as a program are STILL afraid to wear the black jerseys
Cochran had no idea how accurate his comment would be

Speaking of Scott Cochran, any word on how special teams is looking?

Well, it was true. It killed the idea of black jerseys perhaps forever. That was a miserable night.

    Fact Check: True.

    It was our mother-f****ng funeral.

I wish they’d wear black for a whole season and get over the stigma against it. One game against Alabama shouldn’t dictate Georgia’s uniforms.

    • I always thought senior night was the best compromise I’ve seen. We’ve also missed the opportunity multiple times recently for throwback uniforms/special unis for various anniversaries.

I thought we might never win another game after that one. It was that brutal. They mercy ruled us the second half. Would have been even worse. The team down south would have piled on. I have nothing but respect for Alabama. They just win the right way. Nothing personal. They’re above that. They’ve crushed our souls and I still don’t dislike them. They’re not cheap, they’re not petty, their not UF.
