Alex, I’ll take “probably not” for $200.

Over at The Athletic, G. Allan Taylor ($$) notes that Florida is heading towards starting four fifth-year seniors on the offensive line and asks “Does a year older mean a year better for Gators offensive line?

If I’m skeptical, it’s only because they have long way to go just to achieve mediocrity status.

That’s the kind of improvement the line needs after last season’s uneven performance:

• Ranking 11th in the SEC, 74th nationally, in yards per carry (4.24)

• Ranking 11th in the SEC, 89th nationally, in rushing yards before contact (1.49)

• Ranking 12th in the SEC, 86th nationally, in pressures allowed on drop-backs (36.08 percent)

Sure, the Gators had their share of injury issues in 2019, but look what happened the first time they didn’t.

The original starting five reassembled for the Georgia game in Week 9, but the result was a season-worst 278 yards overall and a meager 21 rushing on 19 carries (including 29 yards lost on two sacks).

Then again, “better” is a relative term.

If any of those fifth year seniors were that good they’d be playing on sundays. I can see having 1-2 fifth year seniors that are effective. But 5? Seems like all the guys that never were good enough to sniff the field are all getting their chance

If the are three times (300%) better this year, they still only get 63 yards rushing.

    I’m really ok with that.

Yeah, like everyone else said, they have to be better almost by default. But “better” still doesn’t mean “good”.

Sounds a lot like Kentucky’s model: keep low rated players 4-5 years and hope they’ve been coached up by their senior year.

I just can’t wait for next year’s preseason when they’ll be spouting about how they ‘may have lost experience but the talent will be so much better! ‘

I wonder if after they lose again this year they will understand they are now lost in the same wilderness we were. SOS, Tebow or Corch are not coming back to save them. Kirby has flipped the series and #FTMF.
