We can’t have nice things in 2020.

Just because I don’t care for Auburn doesn’t mean I can’t feel a little sad about this:

I just don’t get the harm being prevented here.

Golden Eagles are leading COVID spreaders! I saw it on the Internet, so it must be true!

Only thing that comes to mind is on field animals means on field handlers who are not considered essential. It still seems stupid – make the handlers wear masks and keep distance while on the field, allow animals and handlers a brief cameo at beginning of the game only.

I think the Auburn eagle is pretty cool.

  3. Remember the Quincy

The handlers always practice distancing, so this is a stupid overreach.

Obviously we can’t risk a new pandemic of bird-flu on top of what we are already dealing with. So there’s that…

  5. I’d explain the safety being incorporated here but I don’t want to get booted for posting Covid-19 stats for birds of prey. 🤣 😉

  6. English bulldogs in air-conditioned dog houses are super spreaders!

Free Uga! Free Bully! Free Miss Reveille! Free Smokey! (I have to go wash my mouth out with soap after typing that.)

It’s a JOKE, and not a good one. Oh the horror of an eagle in flight, or a dog on the sidelines, it’s our own fault for falling for BS.

How bout a substitute: A big ass R/C airplane that shoots off fireworks as it flies around, then nose dives at the 50 and explodes in a ball of flames.

“I got your safety precautions right here!”

In a stadium with the most embarrassing pregame I’ve ever seen the eagle is the only redeeming quality.

I hate the Barners, but that is one of the great traditions in CFB.

There is no harm being prevented. As much as I hate Auburn, the eagle flight is really cool, But, if you have to have a rule because of some mascot somewhere, the rule needs to apply conference wide. That’s all I can see.

    • My guess as to their explanation would be something along the lines of only allowing necessary personnel into the stadium, but even that doesn’t hold water when you are allowing some fans to attend.

Somebody somewhere probably things the mascot and its entourage is a slippery slope of some sort. I don’t really see how, or to what entity that slope slips to. Who or what entities could you not possibly say “sorry” to if you allow the what, 2-3 handlers of the mascot to do their minimalist activities over in the corner ?

IMO, the visual of the mascot on TV is as important a part of the production as the extra effort (and hands on deck) of generating new/enhanced/artificial and field level sound in a stadium 75% empty. As in, by definition both flow to the presentation of normalcy if nothing else.

Ah, but mascots don’t make donations and buy tickets. Maybe if they did, they would be allowed. 😉

Maybe they’re just trying to keep the damn thing from flying into the windows in the press box again. #ILikeDrivingInMyTruck

Obviously concerned about the emergence of eagle flu and bulldawg flu.

  15. I’m being selfish here but I kinda hope the season falls through. Or at least a little part of me does every time I see an announcement like this.

They already had me at “no tailgating” so all this extracurricular is adding insult to injury.

Just another example of the insanity of the current situation. Faceless people making inane decisions.

  17. It’s not like any of the mascots are bats from China! And yes I went there!
