SEC gappin’

Two of these teams are unlike the ten others.  (In a good way, that is.)

I wonder how many of those numbers would hold up as scores this Saturday.

This really illustrates how nuts it is for folks to be picking FL to win the East win they have <60% of the blue chip talent we do. That amount of excess talent can make up for a lot of things.

WE HAVE ALMOST DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF BLUE CHIP ATHLETES THAN FLORIDUH.

Yet Floriduh will win the East because “reasons.”

Just a reminder all, of the assholes currently picking Floriduh to beat us this year:

    Tom Fornelli

The LSU number shows how much walked out the door at the end of last season.

  4. Let me know when we automatically win a football game just because we out-recruited the other team.

A less talented team can upset a more talented on a given Saturday and an individual player may outperform or underperform his star ranking but over a large sample size of many games and players (as in an 85 man roster playing a season’s worth of games) recruiting matters….a ton. In fact you can winnow down to 10 teams from who the national champion will emerge based solely on recruiting rankings before the season even starts every. Single. Year.

    • star level is one of the few metrics that can give a reasonably accurate prediction.

I hear you, at least Kirby has the box checked that says “recruit nationally in the top 5 in the rankings”.

I need to see it on the field though. With our offense last year we have seen how elite talent needs elite coaching. Monken, or an OC of his caliber, is now on the staff and hopefully his methods shape the fine young men on our team.

Mullen has set himself up by saying he doesn’t think they will lose a game this year. With all the media rat poison being sprinkled on his team. Sounds like a CMR type year lose to some team with less talent and a blow out lose in Jacksonville. Not knocking our former coach. I really like CMR he will always be a DGD to me he just never for lots of reasons maxed out his teams potential especially when highly touted.

Oh man, I was trying to think of the proper analogous to this Floriduh team and it’s totally the 2008 Georgia team.

These ‘turds are going to be so high from sniffing their own farts that there’s no way they win more than 7 games before the bowls.

        • That’s getting close to “I’ve waited 55 years to coach a team this good” territory from Mullen. Hope it ends similarly too.

I dunno man. I bag on Trask a lot, and it’s deserved given the non-factual media hype he’s gotten, but Tennesse’s running Gitmo out there and Chaney is their OC.

I’ll allow The Meteor Game should be closer this year than it has been in a long time.

Y’all get way too overworked about the preseason bs. I like when they dawggrade us. It’s a motivator. No one is anything until it shows on the field.

Arkansas with 20?! Are all the other guys walk-ons?

It’s crazy that Arkansas is so bad and also has a decent amount of talent on the roster relative to their peers like Kentucky and Missouri.

  8. Damn! The gap is real. There is no real reason that we shouldn’t win the east, unless we get out coached. We weren’t the only program to lose a QB and OL. Sure, sometimes recruiting rankings don’t matter but they’re pretty close the majority of the time and that’s a sizeable gap between Georgia/Bammer and everyone else. Enough to account for a bust or surprise or two.

Of course, the pandemic could definitely shake things up.

Don’t believe all that gap crap….FU staying in the middle of the pack with the qb wissperin’ port-o-let master at the recruiting helm, UGA is screwed and i blame it all on the guy at the top, that’s right, Mr. Kirby Smart…if UGA’s season (?) can make it to the WLOCP date, the world will see what all that gap talent means….in the mean time…. #FTMF

I thought the 2012 SEC Championship Game was the greatest game I’d ever see, but if Bama beats us 70-67 in the Dome this year, they’ll be wheelin’ me out of there on a gurney…

I can’t see AR scoring 20 against our D. Garbage time or not.

If Arkansas scores 20, we’ve got the scout team getting reps.

The more telling numbers would be the number of 5-stars on each team.

A 5-star is a truly rare commodity. There are only 30-35 of them each year. But there are hundreds of 4-stars, and the difference between the 4-stars that are almost 5-stars, and the 4-stars who are almost 3-stars, is significant, and it makes these blue chip numbers look more impressive than they are for most teams (Alabama and Georgia not included).

Just saw where Houston had their 5th straight game cancelled because of the virus. North Texas had to cancel on them, making the 5th game in a row they’ve missed. They haven’t played yet.

Sorry to throw water on things, but 247 finally updated Florida’s roster and they are now at 49. We are actually at 68. See Charlottedawg’s link above.
The rosters still aren’t reflecting 247’s re-ranking of players that enter the transfer portal. Check out the hit Shorter, Lingard, and Cox take.

  16. The most impressive part is how quickly Smart has closed the gap to Alabama and widened the gap between all other SEC schools.
