Does covering the spread qualify as an ugly win?

It’s Georgia time.

Yeah, that works.

As Bill depicts, this is a good football team.  All it needs is a little successful tweak on offense.

It’s also a program that should have more to show for itself this century than it has.

As far as today goes, it would be a major, major shock for the Dawgs to lose.  (It already sounds like COVID won’t be a factor, so all that’s left is my usual caveat about turnovers.)

The question, then, is will the Dawgs cover.  My guess is yes, albeit barely.  I know Sam Pittman has a lot of good will built up with the team and staff, but business is business, and in this case Job One is getting the offense in sync, something I expect will take more than one game to achieve.

I don’t think Smart intends to run the Hogs out of their own stadium, but a final score of, say, 38-10 doesn’t look outlandish.  Do that and stay healthy makes for a successful road trip.

Along the way, there will be a lot of things to track:  the offensive line and Luke’s general approach; the makeup of the receiving corps; explosive plays — myth or reality; how Monken uses Cook; D’Wan Mathis’ first start.  And that’s just on the offensive side of the ball.

Defensively, I just want to see if a loaded group has the ability to improve beyond their stellar 2019 season.

Then there’s special teams.  There is no doubt Georgia is going to miss Blankenship’s consistency; the question is how much.  And while on the topic of consistency, it would be nice to see Camarda take that next step.  He certainly has the skills.  One other area that could stand improvement is the punt return unit.

Lots to see and lots to figure out.  What are y’all wanting to learn about this team?

TFW you can’t find a Waffle House

You’re at Georgia Tech!  You can do that!

Members of the Georgia Tech equipment staff were spotted at Jimmy John’s restaurant off Carrier Circle Friday night.

Being from Georgia, a state on the New York travel advisory list, they’re supposed to follow strict health and safety protocols, which includes quarantining at the team hotel.

NewsChannel 9 reached out to Georgia Tech, and the assistant athletic director got back to us, saying the people at Jimmy John’s were members of the football team’s equipment staff and, “were not going to make it back to the hotel in time for the team meal, so they had to stop at Jimmy John’s to pick up dinner.”

The spokesman says they went into the restaurant with masks on, picked up food and brought their meals back to the hotel.

In good hands

In case you had forgotten…

He’s already Georgia’s best wideout since AJ Green.  He may also be Georgia’s best player right now.

I can’t wait to see what Monken does with him.

Loose lips, and all that

All quiet on the home front…

The other thing I haven’t heard a peep about is whether Daniels is on the travel squad today.  Mr. Smart is keeping a tight lid on the operation.

UPDATE:  Interesting.

Talk about your last minute decision.  And what does that say about Beck and Bennett?
