Paranoia strikes deep.

‘Bama, you give up 647 yards (7.52 ypp) of offense, there’s gotta be a reason, right?

Well, sure, that makes complete sense.  Except for the fact that Junior’s been gone from Tuscaloosa for four years and the idea that the coach you play for, college football’s most detail-oriented, anal man, neglected to do something obvious like change signals after the departure of a coordinator is beyond far-fetched.

You know who else is a coordinator who left Alabama a few years ago to become a head coach, Dylan?  I hope your teammates worry about signals this week more than fundamentals like tackling.

As you point out, they need to work on the tackling. They were in position multiple times only to be made to look silly. It looked like a Willie Martinez coached defense out there.

The call they really took advantage was: throw it to the open guy because Bama can’t tackle. The weird part is that Bama kept calling that defense. Bama may kill us but their run at the top is in its 2d decade (2008-now) and eventually it must come to an end. Hopefully at around 11:30 EST on October 17th we will see more proof that it’s unraveling and losing momentum.

Mississippi’s offensive coordinator called an incredible game. It was fearless. Alabama’s defense was on its heels the entire night.

I’m not sure 13 is going to be confused with Matt Corral tho.

Similar builds but Corral has wheels and a cannon.

Our guy has a tricycle and and cap pistol.

That he’s in the wings as needed.

Daniels is NOT competing for that job right now. I just don’t believe that they’re opening the comp every week and anointing Stetson. They’re spending the week getting Stetson as ready as possible.

He’s the guy until he gets hurt or gets pulled.

Stetson was in the right place at the right time to take over when Mathis struggled. He is not the best qb on our roster.

He may well be the best option to get a w this week though.

What I like about Stetson is that he has balls, confidence and the other players love him. Thats huge. Everyone knows they have to step up and protect him and get open for him.

But there are still obvious issues with riding him. He makes some bad decisions. He threw into coverage in scoring territory and didn’t get down when we were up big late. Nearly got himself killed. He doesn’t have the arm to scare folks and he doesn’t have the skill to put it in tight spots.

That pass to 10 for the decisive td was one of the ugliest ducklings you’ll ever see.

I’m pulling for the kid and I am a huge fan. But he’s not a kid thats going to play on Sundays. The fact that he’s at his highest possible ambition may well be a plus.

A little harsh on SBIV. He’s made many of the throws Fromm made plus a few Fromm hadn’t (mainly over the middle. Plus Stetson is much more mobile than Fromm. I’ve seen nothing that says he is holding us back from being successful. In fact, considering he’s had two weeks practicing with the one’s I’d say we could expect continued improvement.

Russ I’m in the middle of where you stand on SB4 and where Derek stands on SB4. He can run the ball better than any qb we’ve seen at UGA in quite some time. His run on the 2 point conversion a couple of weeks ago..and his run to the pylon for the TD against Urinary Tract were both gutsy and skilled. His run for the late first down (where he almost got murdered) was a love song to his team mates. However he doesn’t have the cannon to place an artillery shell consistently on target downfield to scare the defense., but he might get at least somewhat better at that. What scares me is our apparent lack of backup for him. But to say, as Derek did in another post..that Stetson has a tricycle and a watergun isn’t fair. His stats back up that he is far more than adequate as a game manager that can add a enough sauce to his show to make us cheer. Like Derek, I think the team loves him and will protect him at all costs. He’s already a legend because of where he’s been and what he’s waded through to get to be the starter on one of the best teams ever. But in Monken I trust. He surely sees Stetson’s limitations and will scheme around them..perhaps with some situational substituting and with some creativity that will keep ‘Bama honest on defense. I look for a good dose of running the ball (which will frustrate me) to open up the pass. Stetson has developed some chemistry with certain receivers while leaving Pickens a little high and dry. So he still has the Pickens option to further develop. No way it’s going to be easy against ‘Bama, but you can bet they are sweating it out too. They know very well that Kirby isn’t finished with Dwan and for a darn good reason…he is much like the two Old Miss QBs that burned the Tide D for almost a half a hundred points yesterday.

Here’s all I care about with regards to Stetson Bennett the Fourth right now:

He’s the best QB in the SEC on third down. Better than Trask. Better than Brennan. Better than all those five stars and blue chippers.

Now, will that continue against better teams than Arkansas, Auburn, and Tennessee? I don’t know. All I know is, for right now, he’s the best.

Jake Coker may have had more stars after his name when he was recruited and a slightly better arm and a few more inches, but really, is Stetson Bennett any worse than Jake Coker?

              We’ll find out soon.

If you’re going to compare stetson to a bama qb of late, blake sims may be the guy. Coker wasn’t great but when he threw it up top to Ridley he didn’t have to come back for the ball.

            • The leadership and love is way up there. That pass Derek mentioned….I almost don’t know how it got there. 2 tipped balls and one for sure INT that lady luck stepped in on. Another INT stopped by PI.

Hes really the intangibles vs the physical gifts. Heart and composure. Hes the guy now and in SB4 we trust. Im certain monken has 20 more pages in his pocket and each week of practice will help.

Oh, Stetson had one bad ass mother trucking pass though, middle slant, the one Gary said “he threw him open” . Thats the stuff right there.

He really is quite the conundrum. We all know he isnt NFL, but we all know he can produce at this level to a point. That point is a moving target based on D and ST contributions that cant be relied upon, but expected. What a season this will be.

  7. We were fearless against Bama in the last 2 games. We played like we had nothing to lose. When we started playing like we had something to lose, we lost.

I don’t know if we’re going to win in Tuscaloosa on Saturday mainly because this game will truly be 19 vs. 11. The suits in Birmingham are going to protect Alabama at all cost.

Just leave it all on the field, Dawgs.

Given that Alabama’s path to the SEC championship game has no apparent hurdles, it is in the SEC’s best interest for Georgia to win next Saturday. It is the only likely scenario where two SEC teams could get in the playoffs.

I liked the play where the refs tried like hell to give bama a first down when even the players on the field knew they were a yard short.

And but for replay that would have been a jasper sanks fumble special.

But perhaps worse since the fumble happened well after the ball crossed the goal line.

I don’t know it’s corrupt. I just think they eat far more shit when bama’s not happy that they bend over backwards to make bama happy.

They’re forced to see things, by positive and negative stimuli, bama’s way.

If you’re reference is to the play where Bama’s runner (think it was qb) was maybe two or three feet short diving for a first down, I noticed it too. The ref spotting the ball had his foot down with a very favorable spot and then looked up at the marker and moved it a little bit more downfield. It was all moot because there was a penalty against Old Miss that gave them the first down…but at least that one official was cheating. We only see it when we can…imagine how much “spot” cheating goes on. Same with the bullcrap fumble. They can call it and hope the replay isn’t clear.

Maybe it happened more than once. This was a run by 4. They moved the sticks to indicate first down while the team lined up for short yardage. It wasn’t even close to a first down. This was with maybe 3 to play or so.

Mountain Brook went to and sends their young to Sewanee, Hampton Sydney, UVA, etc. There’s no glory for a MBH senior to attend UA. Red Elephants mostly live in places like Fairhope, Dothan, Jasper, Tuscaloosa. Sankey, btw, lives in Greystone. He doesn’t care what anyone in Mountain Brook thinks.

Which is really what Tide Nation is all about. For every alum there are 10 sidewalk fans who have never been on campus. Notre Dame may be the only other program with more “fans” than Bama. Bama fans aren’t influential, some alumni are. Not so different than UGA.

My worry is we have not played a 4 quarters game yet and it’s going to take one on offense to beat BAMA. We’ve got a great defense but their offense is great. This one could be like two mules fighting over a turnip.

Bama’s QB skill players are unequalled. Dawgs defense is unequalled.
It will be strength against strength. Meanwhile, our offense has to get better or we can’t beat Alabama. As much as I bitch about manball, if Georgia’s offensive line is kicking their ass, it wouldn’t be too bad of a strategy because their offense is so explosive. Run the clock, wear down the D and win it in the fourth quarter. Kirby will have to control his urge to get cute. We will need a couple of breaks but turnovers may be hard to squeeze out of those guys.

Anybody else have this thought? Stetson played every snap but one (I lost the final two minutes because a storm knocked out my reception, so I may be wrong). That one play when his helmet was damaged was run by Mathis. Does this mean that Dwan is number 2? Why didn’t he play the last series (that I got to see) if he is? Do we even have a viable number 2? You know Nick will notice that. Is Kirby hiding the real up and comer at QB..only to spring him as a surprise in Tuscaloosa? As much as I love SB4, we do need someone to spell him or come in if he gets hurt or goes off track.

This is actually pretty shocking for someone who’s supposed to be a team leader on their defense and who has lived and breathed Saban’s process for four years.

The kid should’ve taken the W and humbled himself for a week of intense practice. Instead he’s out here making inane excuses.

    Excuses are for pussies.

  17. I hate that Saban and Moses both threw out this lame excuse. 1) If you haven’t changed your signals in the 4 years since Kiffin left, then shame on you. 2) If they are stealing your signals, then make an in-game adjustment to stop it. 3) Stolen signals did not cause missed tackles, busted coverages, and the general confusion that existed among the defense, particularly Moses.

That was just piss poor coaching.
