Ballistic

Yeah, the unsportsmanlike penalty Pickens got was world-class stupid, but he caught a break when he was not called for holding/blocking in the back on Bennett’s touchdown run.  Watch Pruitt’s reaction:

George is a little lucky he didn’t get flagged for chirping afterwards.

He has more growing up to do. If he costs us a TD Kirby better bench his ass.

He’s not lucky he didn’t get called for holding. It would have been a pretty questionable call. Now, he is lucky that the taunting wasn’t called.

I think he might need an intervention by a few teammates. #codered #thetreatment

  5. You start to wonder if George is the guy Kirby is talking about obliquely when he said in February that character has now become “the most important thing” for Georgia recruiting.

    • He also said, “The older I get, the more wiser I get, the more you realize that chasing guys who don’t believe in the same principles and values of your university and of your program, they’re just not worth it,” Smart said.

“There’s too much time spent on guys and you’re having to chase them around, it’s just not worth it. Take the guys that want to be there, play with the guys that want to be there.”

Everyone thought he was talking about Zach Evans, but might that have been a comment about George as well?

      • Speaking of Zach Evans, we were also initially going for Tank Bigsby, and Tank was interested. I really wish we had Tank now.

But I am mostly happy we didnt get whats his face prima donna that went to OU. Kid was making his on rap videos and public statements and so on, yikes.

crazy talk, Smart loves Pickens. So do his teammates and most all of the fans from what I can gather. I wouldn’t trade him for any. As mentioned below, he was speaking of Zach Evans.

  6. He’s a moron, but I’m terms of getting away with calls or bad calls, I think this one is evened out by the meh holding call on Jackson.

The officiating was pretty poor all day. The worst was the Tennessee player not being called for throwing a punch.

      • Its beyond unacceptable at this point what the SEC officiating is. We could easily have a pro ref staff. Its clear B-Ham play review is a comedy (see AU 2 times this year, UT throwing punches right in the middle of the tv in slow mo). Also, why not add a ref? And, why not demand goal lines cameras?

I’m really surprised that the taunting didn’t get called. Penn Wagers would’ve been all over that.

Yeah, I think I’m over George Pickens. He seems to be a me first guy in that if he’s not getting balls thrown his way, then he’s very not engaged. If I’m not mistaken, he may have more penalty yards than receiving yards to his credit at the moment. It’s a shame for guys to be that talented, but can’t get out of the way of being world class knuckleheads.

This reminds me of the comments Kirby made last week at the post-game press conference about Kearis Jacskson when he said he’s a leader, toughest players, great academic student and “does what he’s supposed to do when he’s supposed to do it”. I wondered then if that was a poke at Pickens.

He also blocked the guy from behind before he held. Kid plays hard I’ll give him that. Makes a lot of stupid mistakes though.

Yeah….but thought #0 got a gift when covering our # 0 (Washington) and we were called for offensive interference.

Agree, they both were fighting for it….but what the refs probably saw, was a giant and a midget fighting for the ball. Got a feeling we may see more calls like this due to his size.

Pickens is a guy with a huge competitive streak in him. It’s what makes him good and what makes him misbehave sometimes. It’s not as if he’s doing something really awful. He just needs to learn what is not acceptable as valid competitive action. Squirting water on an opposing player is immature and he’ll learn a lot about that this week. Holding and iffy blocks are part of the game and I’d rather have a few of those called than a kid that takes a whiff…it shows his competitive spirit. BUT he has to learn to control it and channel it in positive ways. He’s not an idiot or a bad kid. Pickens is a driven competitor and that’s what excites his talent.
Let’s don’t throw him under the bus. Kirby will deal with him and he’ll grow. (As far as using a GT player as a battering ram into a wall…well, let’s just say it was like watching your new truck go over a cliff with your mother in law driving it).

Surprised the angry man wearing a checkered loin cloth on his head didn’t get a 15 yarder for spiking his headset on the 10 yard line during the play.

The problem with George is that he has now called too much attention to himself. The Zebras will be watching for an excuse to flag him. Nobody mentioned the UT receivers push of our guy on their TD. It wasn’t flagrant but it was the key to that reception.

I wondered last week if Pickens was more ODB Jr, Blackmon, Dez, etc. than AJ Green. I’m sure Kirby will handle it, and I’m sure Pickens is due for a play(s) that make him legendary. Let’s hope it’s this week.
