I knew the defense played well against Tennessee, but this well?
One — one! — broken tackle. Stunning.

Tennessee only broke a single tackle vs. UGA (which was a ghost missed tackle in the backfield on the final drive) on its designed carries. Georgia held the Vols to a 0.74 Rush Yards Before Contact Average, a paltry 15.8% Success Rate, and no 10+ runs. https://t.co/vnqT89askh pic.twitter.com/ipPA3CpUmG

Football is two things: blocking, and tackling. h/t Vince Lombardi
In the early Richt years when Brian Van Gorder was effective, we were known as a sound tackling defense.
Are there restrictions these days on full contact practice? Limits on practicing tacklng? It’s a most pleasant thing to see it being taught well. And a most pleasant thing to see such effective tackling in the targeting era.

The second half was downright embarrassing for them. It was outright domination by our defense in every category.

From watching CFB this past weekend, tackling is a lost art. The fact that this DAWG defense excels at it is certainly a testament to Kirby, Lanning and all the rest of the defensive staff. There are few things that give you worse heartburn during a game than having a guy dead to rights and then seeing him pick up another 5 to 10 yards. That seldom happens with this bunch. When they get a paw on you, you’re going down. If not immediately, then in a split second when 3-4 of their friends show up to finish you off with bad intent. It is truly a thing of beauty this season to watch.

Is that good? Asking for all the Tennessee people looking for moral victories out on these SEC streets. 😂🤣😂

I think it was first half…..Tennessee drew up a pretty good intermediate crossing route on 3rd and medium-long. Every other defense I’ve watched this year, that would have been a first down but our LB/Star took the proper pursuit angle, didn’t overrun the receiver cutback and got him to the ground in the same place contact was made, which was just a couple yards short of the sticks (I feel bad not immediately remembering who it was but I’m not looking it up).
I’ve only been a Georgia fan for a little over 20 years but this is unquestionably the best defense I’ve seen in Red & Black.

It was Tyrique Stevenson on UT’s first possession of the game. UT RB catches it about 2-3 yards of the line to gain and got no more. 7 took him down right there, ending the drive.

It is a great defense. Erk Russell would have loved these guys. They are focused and intentional. They are worthy to be called Junkyard Dawgs.

I’m trying to remember who the UGA defender was that lit up the hillbilly receiver in the 2nd half to the point where his helmet popped off. He caught the ball and jumped right up, but he did not get even 1 inch after the catch. He may have hopped right up, but you can bet the farm that the next time he went over the middle he was going to be thinking about that hit and get alligator arms.
