“You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.”

And you don’t need to be a coach or a player to know what’s wrong with Georgia’s passing game.

So much for that “body of work” bullshit.

  2. As much as I’ve bagged on Landers that dude has broken free behind every defense he’s faced and we haven’t hit him once. Sometimes it’s been his shit effort and sometimes it’s been Bennett not being able to hit the broad side of a barn. Landers kills me because he runs by DBs with ease but never does the extra to make a play. He’s literally giving a damn away from being elite.

The defense actually made some plays and stops in the second half and gave the O a chance to make it interesting. Monken called shots and guys got open. Nothing. Again. The two biggest games this season and we absolutely sucked at making plays that were there to be made.

I wonder if he has poor eyesight? He acts like he can’t see the ball in the air. Can’t adjust or maybe doesn’t care to be bothered with catching it (as someone said a few days ago on this blog)

Monken is a fucking genius, and I would be extremely surprised if he were to coach a second season in Athens for a seemingly clueless, definitely play not to lose coach like Kirby Smart.

I’d be surprised if Monken left in a horizontal move to a program not named Bama, Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma, or something similar or in a vertical move to the NFL or a head coaching position in college. Doesn’t seem like a career move one would want to make regardless of the head coach if we agree that Kirby is safe at the moment. Monken has pretty clearly to me been given much more latitude to take big shots regardless of everyone’s personal theory of Kirby’s predispositions on that side of the ball. The big plays have been there time and time again but so far his two QBs have consistently been unable to avoid costly turnovers, make the right read, hit open receivers, make the progressions to other options which on TV are running or standing in open space, or place the ball in spots that favor the offensive players time and time again. Bennett in particular seems to throw many balls that are 50/50 and even if the pick isn’t made the receiver is having to fight for the ball. Mathis in particular seems to bail on the play and take off if his first read isn’t open. So it is hard for me, at least, to say Monken hasn’t been given a lot of latitude in the game plan and play calling when everyone on this board can see that unlike last year we have players running open and the QBs can’t hit them consistently.

Play not to lose philosophy is far more than offensive philosophy.

Play not to lose is also continuing to run Bennett and Mathis out there because you’re too scared to go with more talented options in Daniels or Beck because there are more unknown variables.

At this point, Priestley or Boom’s kid, if they prove more accurate, would be viable options in addition to JT and Beck. Bennett and Mathis seem like deer in the headlights most of the time. I hope Kirbs realizes the conundrum he is in and doesn’t play loyalty. I won’t get the pleasure of watching or listening to the game Saturday, almost mercifully.

Literally the one move that’s worked out for 2020, so it’d be so Georgia for him to bail.

I’m hoping and praying that Chase Elliott, the local boy from Dawsonville done good, is the guy who just broke our major league sports curse.

I’m not a NASCAR guy, and even though it’s not technically a team sport (even though NASCAR are based around teams, it’s really an individual sport with a huge support team behind the individual), I have to believe that Awesome Bill’s kid bringing a major league championship to reside inside the boundaries of this cursed state has to be the curse-busting win we’ve needed.

Braves and Dawgs can’t be far behind! Falcons are fucked, but that has more to do with Arthur Blank being a terrible owner.

And u don’t need to be a uga staff member &coach to know whats go what’s really going on behind the scenes bc the last 6 games on Saturdays keep exposing that. We imagine that bennetts shoulder sprain means, beck & daniel now are taking 1st team reps & we’re about to see the 1st half of arkansas game again. mizzou is ready for our unmotivated, banged up, dysfunctional O regressing, they scored 20 on UK’s D. we scored 14 and now they can load the box too.

Maybe Kirby has not realized that the most important thing for recruiting a QB is accuracy. Hell, Jeff George could throw the ball through a brick wall, but couldn’t hit the brick wall. Arm strength is great but accuracy is absolutely the most important attribute of a premier QB.

Kirby had adapted and wasn’t stubborn that year.

Until about the beginning of the fourth quarter in the national title game.

Then Kirby messed it all up. Cheney would have left right after the game but you know… stuff and things.

At this point does it really matter who plays QB? What we know as of today…
1). Bennett is not the guy
2). Mathis is not ready to be the guy
3). Daniels is not healthy enough, or capable of learning the playbook, to be the guy.
4). Beck has yet to surpass #4 on the depth chart with garbage in front of him.

Kirby is in tricky waters right now. His program is facing an identity crisis on both sides of the ball and there is really is no one capable, or willing, to step on on the field and lead. What happens between this point and the beginning of next season will determine the direction of this program. What does he want the offense to be? What does he want the defense to look like? Kirby certainly has a lot of work to do in the next few months.

I remember when we were last in this spot in terms of on-field results. We managed to muddle and fuddle our way to 9-2.

The more troubling thing is that teams are hanging 40+ on that storied defense with depth at every position and lots of ‘crootin.

28 points would likely get it done if the secondary was getting so routinely torched.

  10. The Truth

OK, let’s start with the standard “stars aren’t everything” disclaimer, but over time they’ve proven to be a more accurate predictor of success than not.

According to the 247 composite, in the last five recruiting classes (2016-2020), Bama has signed one 5-star receiver who is no longer on their roster (Jeudy).

UGA has signed four 5-stars (Hardman, Nauta, Pickens, and Washington) and has another that Cal signed (Robertson), three of whom are still on our roster.

And we’ve been less talented at WR/TE? We’ve got to get the QB situation right and soon. We wasted talent because of scheme last year, and we’re wasting talent and scheme because of QB this year.

Ryan Day, without ever have seen Justin Fields practice, managed to identify that Fields should be a starting quarterback and knew how to read a defense.

    Amazing.

It’s almost as if it was patently obvious that he is a dynamic playmaker.

Yes, and that’s want will happen for us this fall. This year’s depth chart doesn’t matter to next season any more than Ohio States did before last season. Ohio State, OU and LSU all made hay with transfers and so will we.

        That’s an interesting thought.

So has CKS already identified his transfer quarterback?

Will they be a great transfer quarterback like Joey Gatewood, Feleipe Franks, KJ Costello, Kelly Bryant or JT Daniels?

He will only take a guy who has proven it on the field. He shouldn’t waste his time with guys like Franks or Kelly Bryant unless he is looking for an experienced backup.

Mathis reminds me a lot of Brice Ramsey. Great athlete, throws a beautiful ball but doesn’t have the accuracy or game knowledge (yet).
