If the AD tells you it’s a throwaway year, who are you to argue?
“My turn”. LOL.

UPDATE: Another member of the secondary’s turn.
If this keeps up, Kirby’s gonna feel comfortable starting Bennett against South Carolina.

UPDATE #2: It’s a full blown exodus.
Burch and Lloyd come on down! The transfer portal is nice and warm!

I had a similar thought. Which leads me to the thought that if CKS doesn’t sign some of these kids the first time, he can always get them again via the portal. It’s going to be interesting.

How quickly is this going to start happening across the entire college football landscape? A draftable kid whose every movement has been controlled for the last 5+ months and no longer has anything to play for tells his teammates he’s making a business decision to leave them.
It may start happening at a program near us soon.

I actually hope you’re right. It would be great to know asap what needs we’ll need to fill through returnees, recruiting. or transfers. Seniors coming back will make a huge difference for many a program.
Just look at DBs. We could lose LaCounte, Stokes, Campbell, Daniel and Webb OR they could all return.

LeCounte and Stokes are gone. Sure, they could come back for a 5th year, but why would they? Campbell should return (he’s only completing his 3rd year and has been up and down for most of the season) to improve his draft position. Webb is an interesting one. If he projects to the next level, I would assume it’s at safety rather than corner. He hasn’t really played any safety at all. Could he move to the back end to prepare and allow Stevenson (the more natural corner – likely to move to Stokes’s spot) to see the field more and make room for Ringo at star?

Only chance I see LeCounte coming back is if there are injury questions he wants to dispel + some sort of Chubb/Michel “unfinished business” push.

The kid who made Jake Fromm look awful last year is leaving as well.

The narcissism of even the most marginal college athletes is staggering.

In fairness, its not all the kids’ fault, there are usually lots of enablers along the way, and humility isn’t a trait that is generally rewarded or looked favorably upon in our society these days anyway…

Dude, I get it. You’re not impressed.
Just think of the pleasure you’ll get next year coming back to remind us how much he sucks when he doesn’t get drafted.

Stats for college dbs rarely translate to nfl success. Look at Jeff udukah (#3 overall) struggle mightily this year and many other highly drafted dbs over the years, including our very own ‘can’t miss shutdown corner’. Before the felony robbery charges and subsequent release that is. Most successful nfl dbs are guys like Josh Norman, small school, lots of heart, and a ‘gonna prove you’re asses wrong’ attitude. The highly rated ones usually believe their own hype. Baker got him a good attorney tho!

Depends how you define NFL success. If he gets drafted in the first two rounds, I bet he’ll think that was successful.

Jaycee Horn is a first-round draft pick. He’s an outstanding football player who is the son of an NFL wide receiver. I would argue the ignorance of some college football fans surpasses the narcissism of college athletes.

Sooner or later the NFL draft get’s too fat and it becomes a buyers market.

You think they can rival NFL salaries? Who are you kidding or what are you smoking?

You are missing the point. For kids on the margin — think about how many decide to leave early and don’t get drafted — the money could be enough to get them to stay.
And on the other end, for the few superstars who can really swing major endorsement bucks, who’s to say? Manziel said several years ago he would have been tempted to stay if he could have been paid.

Not surprising in the least to see so many pack it in now – you really have to ask yourself, is “winning” the Hugh Freeze sweepstakes really worth all this (plus up to $13MM)????

Incidentally, hopefully Kirby and Monken have reached out to Gunnar Stockton too. Sure, we all hope Vandergrift is the next Trevor Lawrence crossed with Justin Fields…but hopefully another takeaway from this season is you need to recruit top QBs every dang year if you can.

My guess is that a lot of our draft eligible players won’t return from Thanksgiving break. At this point, we’re scrimmaging for 2021 with whoever still suits up.

I bet you are 100% right. Hadn’t thought about that. Except players on Bama Clemson OSU and Notre Dame. May be missing one or two, but a trip to the layoffs and possible natty will keep kids on those teams around.
