We’re both part of the same hypocrisy, senator.

Greg Sankey is shocked, shocked to learn that conference commissioners are manipulating schedules to gain favor with the selection committee.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey made a strong College Football Playoff case for his conference on Wednesday, in part by citing that his conference plans to play all if its scheduled regular-season games. This after the ACC this week canceled games for its two best teams in order to make it easier for them to advance to the league title game, and by extension, earn playoff bids.

The ACC’s move Tuesday raised eyebrows around the sport when the conference eliminated Dec. 12 games for its CFP contenders, No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 3 Clemson. The ACC said it made the move to “preserve the integrity” of the league’s championship on Dec. 19.

Sankey had another view.

“I was surprised to see the announcement [Tuesday],” the SEC commissioner told CBS Sports. “It begs one question: If their two most highly ranked teams were, for instance, [ranked] five and six in the CFP Rankings, would this decision have been made?”

Says the man who supports his members scheduling November cupcake games in the good times.

Wait ’til he finds out what the Big Ten’s gonna do to preserve Ohio State’s path to the CFP.

  1. I’m sure Mickey had absolutely nothing to do with this decision. They want ND in the playoff so bad they’ll go along with anything to make it happen.

I’m sure that Mickey wants Notre Dame in the playoff, but that’s looking like a sure thing these days either way. I’d bet that Mickey is excited about the possibility of having the first-ever ACC Championship Game that anyone is going to actually bother to watch, though.

If he is unhappy with the ACC protecting Clemson and Notre Dame. I can’t wait to see his reaction tOSO when is anointed playoff worthy without appearing in a conference championship game. Always follow the money and you’ll have the why with these guys.

Ohio State will play in the championship game because the Big Ten will drop the eligibility requirement after Michigan cancels The Game.

Good point. The B10 is not one to let their rules or the law get in the way of money. Now if its a PC issue I`ll save the rest for next weeks playpen.

Come back and talk to me when you decide to expand the SEC with at least one more league game.

This whole CFP is such a mess the only solution is to let Richard Nixon decide the champion like he did so well long ago between Texas and Arkansas. Perfect for 2020.

Wow, sounds like he’s already lobbying for Florida…. Both Greg and the league can go jump off a bridge…

    • Not Florida but Texas A&M. No way Florida gets in with 2 losses especially when they get curb-stomped by Little Nicky and his Bammers.

I obviously hate Florida, but it is his job to lobby for Florida and A&M and anybody else in the SEC with a prayer of getting in.

No it’s not – he and the other bean counters can hope in their heart of hearts that another SEC team gets in so there’s more moolah to pass around, but to overtly support Florida in something like this is a firable offense.
I’m sure everyone’s familiar with the old, “you can’t fire me, I quit” bit, but Moorehead should reverse it: he should reject McGarity’s resignation and fire him instead….

Anybody still want to argue this is a legitimate season with a legitimate championship?

I do. Because Alabama is going to win it, and it’s going to be legitimate.

It isn’t going to be legitimate for Bama any more than it will be for another team if they win it. This is an asterisk year if ever there was one. Players leaving to get ready for NFL draft, games getting cancelled, schedules getting shuffled, etc. Thing is, we often say that they stuff like this ‘for the money’, but I don’t think many teams are making money. You know it is an asterisk year because even the NCAA (!) isn’t counting it against any player’s eligibility. Face it, these games were played to basically have intra-conference scrimmages and maintain skills and conditioning to some extent for when they can play real games again.

I agree with what you stated and would only add this. Whatever benefit was gained by practice, conditioning and skill development, the games are played primarily are to keep the revenue stream running. As Blutarsky says, when they say its about the kids, its about the money. Or something like that.

In my fever dream scenario, the Gators lose to the Vols and LSU, then we roll into the SECCG where we perform much better with Daniels at the helm. If that happens and it propels us to a playoff berth and beyond, you bet your ass I’m gonna argue that it’s legitimate.

Lawrence deserves at least extra game for the heisman race, so dickish move by acc. Of course they don’t have a commish, so hope the cfp punishes them.

  9. Forget the playoffs. Just assemble all the conference commissioners on the field, drop a huge bag of money on the 50 yard line and let’s see who wins that fight. Pay per view only of course to raise even more cash. It would be the only honest thing left in College Football.

  10. The Decider

Bama/Arky still has not been rescheduled. It was moved so Bama and LSU could play this weekend. But FU will play the week before the SECCG.

I don’t think I’ve seen our game with Missouri “officially” rescheduled yet either – I guess at this point they are waiting to see if all this weekend’s games get played and then decide. Spose’ we may know about halftime of the Bama-LSU game, although I’m not sure anyone will be watching by then….
