Chicks dig the deep… er, catchable ball.

Like I said, there’s always a stat of the day when you need one.

I really, really want to see what a Monken-coached offense with a year under its belt and a spring practice can unleash in 2021.  Is that too much to ask?

I’m with you Senator. It’s been a fun offense to watch, for most of the season but especially when JT started. To watch a Georgia offense run plays actually designed to create space for receivers has been refreshing. I hope Monken sticks around!!

Hell, we’re out of it but it’s already fun to watch. Looking forward to a few more beat downs this year and a big 2021.

  3. Would I have liked to have seen what JT could have done to that 3rd and Grantham defense? Absolutely. I’m excited about the future especially if Daniels sticks around. I hope to see us rip through Missouri’s defense, beat down Vandy, and expose Cincinnati.

  7. Lol, damn near half of Mathis’ passes were uncatchable. Hope he makes the best out of wherever he goes, but it’s time to consider a switch of positions.

last i checked Monken’s O/gameplan with a 5’ nothing walk on QB put 14 on the scoreboard before fans could take a healthy swig of their first jack & coke against third and grantham… imagine what he can do with a serviceable, un-injured quarterback for 4Qs?

I agree with you Senator. We can use the end of this year as a pre-Spring to get JT accustomed to Monken’s offense and to get reps with the receivers. Then, assuming we get a full Spring, look out. Maybe we have an offense next year God willing.

Why can they coach accuracy for one guy but not all three?

This almost makes me think that it IS about the player and not his coach. But that can’t be right can it?

My understanding is that there are SOME coaches who think accuracy can’t be taught…….or at least not taught past a certain level / age of development. My personal preference is that we never have another project quarterback.

Just like all those receivers that finally decided to get open this season after not doing so last season. This almost makes me think that it IS about the coaching and not the player. But that can’t be right, can it?

But the same coach is working with Mathis, Bennett and JT.

Explain why two are atrocious and one is the best in the nation at throwing accurate deep balls despite Monken working with all three.

Btw: how close to Herschel would you have been if Ray Goff had been your position coach? 34 got to 5280 yards in 3 years. With Ray’s expert tutelage where do you think you end up?

Explain why none of the receivers could get open last season but now with a new OC we have receivers running free each game?

BTW: how many times did first round draft pick D’Andre Swift score from the 1 yard line against Florida? He had seven cracks at it.

I know your not big on the Pirate but he said that he looks for the kid that can hit a stop sign from 20 yards away. He said accuracy was something you can coach but not well.

I’ve never said Leach is wrong on all things. He’s right on that. You can’t coach that feel and anticipation. You either can see it and do it or you can’t.

Derek, it’s obviously a combination of the two. Check out the team talent on Clemson’s 2016 NC team. ( it wasn’t even top 10). Check out the shit teams USC, Texas, and FSU have had in recent years despite top talent.

I’m talking about accuracy. There are certain talents/attributes that kids have or don’t have. Accuracy is one. Speed is another. Size is another. Toughness is another.

Can you enhance or fuck them up? Sure you can.

But Clemson didn’t make DeShaun Watson. They recruited him.

If Gilbert ends up at UGA, I’d wonder how much of it had to do with looking at a Monken offense and seeing greener pastures.

Not taking away from the homesick freshman during Covid, it would be easier to leave though if you felt like you were upgrading.

I think you’re dead on. I think we’ll see a lot of talented offensive players looking hard at UGA thanks to Monken’s more dynamic offense.

  15. That might depend on what kind of staff and player turnover he has to deal with. We’re probably about to find out what kind of OL coach Luke is as well.

Equally important… someone needs to figure out what happened to Mathis and make sure it never ever happens to another QB again.

Has anyone heard ANY rumblings of Monken’s name in the consideration set for any other gigs? I was (naively) hoping head coaches that were struggling would get a Covid pass and there wouldn’t be many open positions, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

I haven’t heard/seen his name come up at any of the P5 openings. He’s a smart guy who has been around. He knows that if next year is great he can pick his next job.
