At Auburn, the more things change…

Why, look who’s keeping his hand in things!

He’s like a fucking football vampire.  Couldn’t happen to a nicer program.

It could, actually, happen to Florida.

Although I do appreciate the sentiment.

Is the “it” the 3 yr plan or the “blowing up” the plan?

Which side is lowder on here?

Good question. My first instinct is that he would be the one undermining Gus.

I find few “of course(s)” when it comes to the barn. Just because they never disappoint doesn’t mean they don’t surprise with all new lows.

I would have thought Lowder was too much on the outs to be in on a long term plan but would still have enough influence to fuck one up.

But I don’t involve myself with those people except when opportunities for mockery and disgust present themselves so I didn’t know this was one of those “assumable” thingies.

Am I reading this correctly?- The last 24 hours, Lowder has blown up a plan to hire Kevin Steele and that the same people planning that hire have been trying to get rid of Gus for the past 3 years?

Was the 3 year plan set forth before or after Gus received a 7 year $50 million extension?

Adding to this, I’m counting the “we beat the dog crap out of’em” game that led to the extension before the SECC beatdown as a huge 5D chess move by Kirby. That contract is going to set them back a decade.

I’ll never forget the quote from Bear Bryant when no one answered the phone at the football office in Auburn till after 8 AM…
“Y’all don’t take your football seriously down there, do you?”
Seems the more things change, the more they stay the same!!

I hope they don’t hire Bill Clark.

I think that guy can coach and would be a good fit at a place like Auburn.

Of course, I’m almost always wrong about coaching hires.

I think Bill would do a really good job. That is reason to hope he is not hired.
This search could end up looking really bad or I should say much worse they usual for them.

Agree with both of you the Clark can coach and might be a dangerous hire for opponents. They could also get him pretty cheap. However, I’m hoping he doesn’t carry the name recognition or prestige that Auburn fans have come to expect. If they tossed Malzahn, they’re probably looking for a household name replacement, but who knows. Even a blind squirrel sometimes finds a nut.

        • Bill Clark would be a great hire, but he coaches at a program the Tuscaloosa bigwigs have long regarded as small-time and illegitimate. (Can’t have another football program carrying the “University of Alabama” label, see, even if it has a modifier.) For that reason alone—even though it’s a stupid reason—Auburn won’t consider him. Their insecurity is such that they’d rather be mediocre with a headline-grabbing hire than succeed with someone Tide Nation would make fun of.

LMAO – who let the failed banker back into the mix? I get why he got to plot and scheme (hello Jetgate!) when he was worth a few hundred million but now? I knew this was going to be a entertaining from the jump!

Thought a trustee was an individual who was trusted to perform duties inside and outside of the detention center, between the hours of 8-2 M-F, while wearing some form of (orange) clothing signifying the local law enforcement…#AUBURN SUCKS!

I’m hearing Tim Cook is offering to pay buyouts for Gus and all other current coaches, and the full cost of the new staff’s salaries if they will sign Katie Sowers to a 7+ year deal. Would solve all their athletic department’s financial problems.

Just kidding, but you can imagine the reaction from Auburn…

What was so great about Kevin Steele? More accurately, why would anybody think he’s that great?

Bobby Lowder probably sees someone like Kevin Steele as his way back into the Auburn power structure if he’s responsible for Steele becoming the head coach.

Guys like him addicted to their little bit of power, once deposed, will always want to get their little fiefdoms back.

That dude is one of those cancers in SEC football and all of CFB, much like Bear Bryant’s evil little shit son who succeeded in getting the entire UAB football program shut down due to nothing more than sheer pettiness and spending an entire life trading on father’s name.

Really good recruiter. Done a decent job as dc. Saban tree guy.

Probably thinking is that he can hire a good OC and compete with Nick for in state recruits.

I’d laugh a little more if we didn’t have a liquor baron that was similar to Lowder.

And what happened to Sleeze? I haven’t heard his name mentioned for any of the openings lately? Did these schools finally find some morals?

Curious, how much dick does Tarkenton swing inside Butts-Mehre ? I remember that interview in his high-rise office in Atlanta when he pointed towards the westward skyline when talking about competing with Alabama. He runs his yapper every few years but it’s not like he’s overly loud.

That would be approximately Zero dick swing…he done burnt too many bridges. People are polite to him as they walk out of the room

  19. Personally I’m A-OK with Auburn promoting Steele. I imagine he’s learned a few things since he went 9–36 at Baylor (and has access to way better talent), but I still think it sends a pretty uninspiring message at best to give the top job to someone who was part of a regime you evidently weren’t happy with. Same reason I hope the Falcons don’t give their HC job to Raheem Morris.

  23. I have a few issues with smart (read: qb management) but if UT and AU, and SC are completely melting down, and UF is about to implode, well, ill take the guy that kills recruiting and can field a team. If Kirby can keep a great OC like now, and into the future, im cool. Mostly. Lol.

I used to talk about this often, but taking advantage of the years your rivals are down is huge. I dont believe in this “I want a good game”. They won when we sucked, and nobody saud “well, your year doesn’t count UT, UF, AU, bc Georgia sucked”. Not my problem. See your enemies driven before you and all that. The playoffs will be hard enough.

So they spent $21.5M to fire a coach who beat Saban last season without having anyone lined up, meanwhile their recruiting class has imploded and the leading candidate is their defensive coordinator who got shredded by the all mighty Gamecocks this season and went 9-36 as an HC?

I don’t know how any athletic department could do something more boneheaded, but I’m sure Phil Fulmer will figure out a way in the next week or so.

Just weird and small and not thought out well. Gus signed his extension a year or two ago, right? And this was a 3 year plan? If this guy had that kind of smoke, things woulda changed before the extension. Anyway, pay a guy $21 mill to go away just to install an average joe coach? And probably fire him 3 years in or less because he also sucks. Bizarro stuff right there.
