LSU does something expected since… what, the second half of the first game of the season?

The one-time payment is reportedly around $5.2 million, which is certainly nice work if you can get it.

As the linked article indicates, Pelini isn’t leaving by himself.

More staff changes are expected to come, including the departure of safeties coach Bill Busch and the retirement of defensive line coach Bill Johnson. Cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond, an assistant on staff since 2012, is the only defensive coach remaining on staff.

LSU is also expected to part ways with passing game coordinator Scott Linehan after one season, multiple sources told The Advocate. The 57-year-old Linehan is due the full remainder of his two-year, $800,000 per year contract, a buyout that is approximately $1 million.

All that, and an athletic department looking at taking an $80 million hit this year.  What a country, eh?

The punchline is that Coach O will be picking the replacements.  I mean, what could go wrong?

Alex, I’ll take Ncaa investigation for a long while…the cash is there, are penalties possible, some may opt to better looking pastures for long term empoly…

So a guy comes in and totally wrecks the D, all while giving up a school record 35 points a game in the process. And for that one year of ‘work’ he gets 5m+ to leave and not work? Talk about your golden parachute.

Did Dooley make 5m over the course of his entire 25 year career? I seriously doubt it. It wasn’t long ago that OC/DCs were making between 100-200k annually. Now they are making enough in just one year to establish generational wealth.

It’s unreal ! I have roughly the same career as my dad… to think that he was almost certainly eclipsing the UGA head coach in salary, while i couldn’t lick kirby smarts shoes. Boggles the mind. A real confidence booster too 😉

A natty by “The Best College Team Ever” buys a generous portion of good will for O.

This is Cajun Ed’s one free screw up. Even with the great team last year, “what have you accomplished lately” trumps loyalty any day of the week.

  5. Oeaux is out of Baton Rouge in 3 years just like Cheat-zik at Auburn. If he hadn’t caught lightning in a bottle last year, they would probably be announcing his separation.

  6. I wonder why they didn’t announce this last week? They wouldn’t have done that just to preserve a recruiting class would they???? Nah! surely not.

Man, I called in on Linehan. O replaces a dynamic, young, innovative offensive thinker with a run-of-the-mill, dime-a-dozen NFL zombie who has never been confused with the term “offensive genius.”

    Seriously, WTF did he expect?

Will UF let Grantham go after the bowl game? Seems they will or at least should. They went 2-3 versus the SEC West this year and gave up at least 35 points in all 5 of those games – 35 in wins over Ark and Ole Miss, 41 in loss to Texas A&M, 37 in a loss to LSU and 52 in a loss to Bama.

I’m scared they will let him go, but Mullen has had Grantham around for a long time. When given the chances this year, Mullen has instead blamed everything BUT the defense. Seeing as how tact isn’t one of his strongest attributes, I’m hoping that Mullen has a giant blind spot about 3rd and Grantham. I’d really love to see what JT can do to that defense next season.

Grantham hasn’t been with Mullen as long as it seems – Grantham was with him in 2017 at Miss State and now has been at UF for 3 seasons. He was at UGA for 4 seasons followed by 2 at Louisville before going to Miss State. The time at UGA was his longest tenure at any one place since beginning his coaching career. Some salty Gator fan has changed His Wiki page to show his current position as Offensive Coordinator at Alabama.

For all the snarky things said about Grantham on this blog, he DID spend four seasons as the Dawg DC, he DID devise a scheme to defeat the Dawgs this season and Mullen seems content not to take the Dawg fans advice and fire him for what…getting him to the SECCG in what was the best game of the 2020 season? And, a high final Top Ten rank! So, enough fellow Dawgs, find another meme and quit beating a dead horse.

      • Same — though I worry a bowl matchup of Lincoln Riley vs Grantham may expose his weakness so much they don’t give him his usual raise + extension.

Odd times we are living in. Saban now says that great offenses beat great defenses now and that you have to have the great offense to win things that matter. It truly seems that things have turned so that great offenses are necessary but a defense just good enough to get a few stops is all that necessary.

I can’t get my head around paying Pelini $2.3 million a year to be a DC. He’s nowhere near that level.

The coaching salary arms race continues. And now that they’ve shown they’re willing to pay that, they’ll probably have to pay something similar to the next guy.

The wheels are starting to come off the ‘O’ train. Like fat Phil did and many others, after you run out of assistants to blame and fire over a few years, it’s your turn to burn baby.
