Use the force, Luke.

Kirby’s been just as flattering about Cincinnati.  Sounds like those bulletin boards are gonna be barren.

If Cincinnati shows up with a baby Yoda we are in trouble!

If Georgia shows up with your mentality we’re toast.

Players know what a mid-major is just like you and I do; they don’t need any fan’s mentality to “rub off” on them to underestimate someone. And just like you and I, they are perfectly aware that mid major teams are far less talented than they are. And just like you and I, P5 teams have a long history of underestimating the quality of mid majors. Happens to someone pretty much every week of every season. Even Alabama almost lost to Georgia Southern.

It takes a certain mental fortitude to prepare for an objectively less talented opponent as though they were a worthy foe. I hope our team has it, and I think they do. The trouble is that in the game of football a less talented but better prepared team can win. We have far, far too much experience watching this happen because Georgia went into game prep with DaveinAZ’s mentality, including against Boise State when we had an extremely talented team that, unlike this team, won the East.

Hawaii 2007 is what SHOULD happen on January 1. If our players take Cincinnati as seriously in practice as DaveinAZ would, I have no doubt we will get badly embarrassed.

Well…..if they are listening to the “fayuns” rather than the coaches, they/we are in deep shat anyway.

But I guess us “fayuns” should just keep the comments to ourselves just in case, hey??

            help them focus…

I didn’t even remotely imply that fan comments or opinions have the slightest effect on players. I very clearly said they don’t need fans to explain to them that they’re about to take the field with a far less talented team. But knock yourself out.

Just need to talk to some of the players somehow. Since we’re not traveling to Atlanta until just before the game, I’m hoping some Bearcat player talks some smack.

4-2 vs P5 teams under Fickell. Lost to tOSU last year & Michigan in his first year.

Cincinnati is 59th in 247’s overall talent ranking (9 spots behind Mizzou & 5 behind Vandy).

Georgia will be down 9 players officially, counting 4 who went into the transfer portal. Only Stokes opted out to train for the draft, the other 4 are rehabbing injuries to get ready for the Senior Bowl.

Our culture is good, guys want to play, and judging by the way they’ve approached the year, I feel really good about Friday.

    • I’m with you. If we show up with bad intentions, we’ll beat the Bearcats soundly.

I think we beat them badly, but that is a big “if.” I worry because after the Texas Sugar Bowl we know for a fact that it’s possible for this regime to field teams that don’t take bowls seriously.

On the other hand, I do think this season played out just right for this team to take Cincinnati and the Peach Bowl very seriously. Georgia’s not a complete team that stubbed it’s toe, missed it’s goals and now has nothing left to play for. It was a team that lost a couple games BECAUSE it was incomplete at the time. Now it’s a complete team that’s looking to prove it could have won those two games and maybe more.

They shouldn’t need to be convinced their pride is on the line…. because it is.

        • I think Kirby learned his lesson in 2018. He allowed all of those guys who had checked out to hang around the team. Throw in the fact he allowed Fields to attend the game while Kirby was trying to rerecruit him. It was a recipe for a terrible performance.

Last year, he pretty much laid down the law that if you weren’t planning to play, you aren’t going to take a spot on the plane. The team was focused and played arguably their best game in the 2nd half of the year.

Yeah, I’ve got to agree with EE, here. Kirby figured it out after that Texas Sugar Bowl. Are you in? You get to stick around, are you out? Then you’re out and good luck. I think it showed through when so many guys passed on the Baylor game and we still played pretty well and won the game.

I feel like he’s got the team where they need to be in their approach and these guys want to play because they missed out on so much this year. I’m just not worried about the team’s approach or attitude. All they have to do is look at the rankings. Cincy 8, Dawgs 9 in CFP; Cincy 6, Dawgs 12 in AP; Cincy 6, Dawgs 9 in Coaches. Everybody says they’re better than Georgia; Vegas be damned.

I heard it on good authority that Fickell said we have the finest long snapper they’ve faced all year.

From the grounds keeper at the Masters sisters first cousin who told the Bud delivery guy that the chef who cooks for the salesman that sold out door carpet to the ATL falcons scout team that the bearcats thought the long snapper john deere green was cool….so that’s in UGA’s favor

  7. He’s reiterating the fact fact that they’re in for a fight and I don’t blame him. This game sets up almost exactly like UCF and Auburn but I expect a different outcome.

Kirby has his faults but I believe this game will show that he gets his guys ready for games through opt outs and falling short of goals. He did it for the bowl last season.

I truly think that the CFP committee wants us to curb stomp them. Then they’ll shut up and go away and the CFP boys tell them you had your shot and you crapped the bed.

Mid major basketball teams can make some noise come tourney time. It’s 5 on 5. Football is another story entirely. Not a lot of Cinderella stories. We’re good here guys…….
