Call me maybe.

Cryptic response from Daniels:

I’m not saying it’s not truthful, though.  He’s had a rather eventful year, to say the least.

  1. I’d take that as truth. I’m sure he is fully aware of his standing in the draft…that being said, I’m wondering if Beck hits the transfer portal if he announces a return. With BVG expecting knee surgery he could legit get playing time regardless, but methinks he is also weighing options.

Seems like a pretty pragmatic family… I would like to think that he knows he can greatly improve his draft status by coming back to that offense with those receivers for another year.

  3. Other than one mock draft that has him as potentially a mid to late 1st round selection, no one is saying he should leave.

I may be wrong, but it just seems he doesn’t have enough film or has proven he is fully ready physically post-injury to warrant even a 2nd round selection.

Why leave now when you can stay and have a ton of receiver talent around you with an excellent run game? He will be a Heisman candidate and a likely top 10 pick if he comes back and has an excellent season.

I would think Smart and Co would point to Mac Jones who looked good in relief of Tua last year (and could have declared) versus this year where he may vault himself up to an early pick.

Alabama seems to specialize in making people more money than their worth, while we have the problem of uber talent losing money because they leave before they’re ripe on the vine. Riley Ridley is Exhibit 1-A IMO.

First, he’s looked great, but hasn’t done it against any great teams yet. Even if he kicks ass in the Peach Bowl against a top 10 team, it’ll still be “yeah, but was Cincinnati really that good?”

Second, any enthusiasm a team might have to take a mid-round flyer on him would be tempered by the fact that he’s fresh off a pretty bad knee injury. Big, big risk before about the 5th round and even then I’d sweat it as a GM.

Third, Pickens and the rest of the receiving corps have been making some amazing catches since he took over. Would he have looked that good against even the mediocre teams he’s played with players who can’t make the freak catches Pickens & Co have?

      Gotta come back.

        I’m with you.

He had exceptional decision making, but some of the throws he made, albeit that turned out well, were less than what I’m thinking a GM would be looking for in a 1st, 2nd or 3rd rounder. Unless it’s John Elway.

The other thing I have to think eventually a GM is going to take into account is the high school he went to and the lack of quality NFL QBs from there that looked the part and were flops- Barkley, Leinart, Brennan. Add in there former USC QB Sam Darnold being a flop you’ve got a recipe for a bit of a falling knife.

The SI story on his decision is interesting.

It takes a look at the “not enough film” discussion.

        For instance.

One thing it looks at is Trey Lance, from NDSU, who played only 1 game this year.

In total he has played 17 games, none against quality opponents.

And yet his stock is pretty high.

If you have the skill set, game tape isn’t that crucial.

Obvious reasons like risking getting injured again while still not getting paid.

I’ll be really surprised if he leaves. With the firepower he has coming back on offense he is a legitimate threat to win the Heisman and be a top 5 pick next season. The contract for a top five pick will set you for life and drops off drastically once you hit late first round/second round.

If you look at the QB draft class for the upcoming draft (Sunshine, Fields, NDSU QB, etc) versus the projected QB draft class for the following draft, it’s a no-brainer for JTD to come back. A great season could vault him to the top of the ’22 draft class and a Top 5-10 pick. In ’21, he’s the 5th or 6th QB off the board at best.

Looking ahead to ‘22.. if Daniels and Monken have the kind of year most of us think they will in ‘21, the QB depth chart is Vandagriff and Beck.

Does Kirby put the full court press on Stockton to flip (Fromm/Fields 2.0?), or does he take a lower ranked kid and then go hard after a ‘23 guy like Lonergan?

he knows the cupboard is full in the mock draft. plus JT doesnt have a lot of short, tight window intermediate throw’s on tape vs decent pass Ds. Another season will likely be needed.

  7. Theres many a player I said needed another year, and they left, and they needed another year. There just isnt that much film against quality for JT. Not even sure how itd be a consideration. I think his family can make it 16 months until a signing bonus, I think. It wasnt that long ago QBs didnt leave early, but we also didnt have freshman starters like Sunshine.

Honest answer nice and refreshing. My guess is if he looks at who is coming out in this years draft and the upside to a big 2021 season. He would see a a boat load of money probably being left on the table to come out now. As a business decision it makes no sense to come out now. He seems really happy in Athens being Top Dawg what’s not to like with all that offers.

I`m hoping he shows up after the bowl game in a t-shirt stating.

Zero chance this kid hasn’t thought about the NFL draft. Georgia hasn’t played a game of football in 2.5 weeks. I hope he stays and I think it would probably benefit him to do so, but I thought the same about Fromm last year. Nothing surprises me anymore. Especially with Fromm leaving after his worst season as a lifelong Georgia fan. JT just got here with no connection to Athens, and small sample size or not he’s looked damn good.

I love Jake Fromm as a DGD, but whether Coley ruined him or what, I wasn’t looking at a 2020 with Fromm as some breakout offensive escapade that eluded us by him leaving for the NFL. Sure, I was worried about the transfer of power at the position, but with Daniels I’m straight foaming at the mouth for 2021. Fromm did not have the same skillset as Daniels.

Well we also didn’t know what we had in Monken after last season. Yes JT throws a better deep ball than Fromm, but he’s also made several bone headed throws that didn’t hurt us against mediocre opponents but they’re the kind of throws Fromm tended to avoid, pre Coley at least.

Knowing what we know regarding the emergence of Burton I think we easily beat Florida with Fromm running Monken’s offense and we were beating Bama at the half with Bennett so…🤷🏻‍♂️

  10. Wtf are we even talking about? No NFL team is going to draft JT this year. Dude has a bum knee and limited snaps to show his mobility on it. Not to mention that he has a weird karate kick form in his throws and several of his longer passes have come up short. He gets an invite to a few camps at best. Mock drafts had Fromm going in the 2nd round too, but guess what?

Ha ! Wonder how ole Cade feels about his transfer home to be with his bubba. Probably lost a lot of $$ not playing at UGA one more year.

I’ve said it before. Very few of our players should be thinking nfl. There’s not a player on the roster that wouldn’t benefit from another year in our S&C program and more education credits or an advanced degree. Even if it’s the on-line version of classes.
