With opt-outs and COVID-19 testing, Dan Mullen anticipates "about 60 scholarship players" being available for the #Gators in the Cotton Bowl.

Chaser.
Dan Mullen on why #Gators QB Kyle Trask is playing in the Cotton Bowl despite his four top receivers missing the game: "It just shows the character he has. He's excited to go play in the game and he's worked his butt off."

Dan, I’m not sure “excited” means what you think it means.

I gotta wonder if UF will pull a Vanderbilt and pull out of the Cotton Bowl due to COVID. Trask has a lot on the line, but so does Mullen. A look at next year’s talent might not be the chicken soup the Gator souls need.

Get real. The SEC ain’t passing on that paycheck.

That, and neither Florida nor Mullen has that much on the line here. Gator fans think that they proved something this year, and they know who isn’t playing in this game. If they lose, the Gator fans will forget about it the next day and no heat will be added to his seat.

Oh, I don’t expect it to have an impact on the temperature of Mullen’s seat, but that doesn’t mean I won’t enjoy the mockery coming for a three-game losing streak to end the Gators’ greatest season in years.

Oh, same here for sure. I was just agreeing with your point that there’s no way for Florida to try to sit out this game – there’s not really any reason not to.

Should you look back at the couple of weeks following the 2020 WLOCP, the Senator didn’t post much if anything FU related, then FU stumbled…Bluto got his FU groove back, more posts followed about FU and their exploits, should FU lose by 1 or a hundred and one, the Senator will be bubbling with FU posts like a shaken can of warm Bud…

Can we assume that South Carolina ain’t very popular in the Birmingham offices?

Oh, I think if Trask had 1/2 a brain, he would sit this puppy out. If he has a bad night, then it may have some folks rethinking how much of this was him and how much of this was that receiving group. Lot more downside than upside for Mr. Trask here.
In fact, if Mullen really cared about the guy, he would sit him out. Especially if he really only expects to have 60 players (which I suspect is a lie – not a fib – a lie).

NFL types look at the advanced stats. Something like 80% of his yardage is after the catch, the work of his receivers. It’s one of the worst percentages in all of CFB. He’s a dink and dunker. Yes, he did hit on more and a higher percentage of passes 20 yards or more this year than last, but the fact remains, Kyle Trask looks for the dump-off before he looks downfield. He’s the next Blake Bortles or Cade McNown. He is absolutely nothing special.

And somehow NFL teams keep drafting those guys in the first round…

Here is why Mullen can not have him sit out…Emory Jones.
Mullen is never playing Jones as his QB1, but he needs to keep up the charade thru spring to make transferring harder for EJ.

I bet Emory Jones saw that relative success that Franks was able to have at Arkansas and I bet that he knows Kyle Trask is going to come back to be Florida’s quarterback next year. I bet he’s already gone.

God, I sure hope the national CFB writer fever dreams about Sideshow Dan the Clown in the NFL aren’t true and he stays at Floriduh, because the ass-whuppin’ he has on deck for next season is going to be EPIC.

Shorter Mullen….the players who opted out have no character.

Dan means that Dan is excited that his franchise player is playing.

I know we’re supposed to bang on Trask, but I have to hand it to him, for a guy who was second string in HS, Trask has done really well at UF. I think it does say a lot about him that he’s going to play in the Cotton Bowl. His numbers are outstanding and while he has shortcomings, he made it work for them. I think he’s a tremendous college quarterback and I’ll be glad to see him leave.

I, too, am excited to watch. Can’t wait to see Florida turn to it’s running game to pull out the W.

Only “60” players – sounds like Mullen is laying the foundation to explain his next loss.

To the jorts and mullets in Gator Nation, I’m sorry, extremely sorry about our terrible defense and shoe tossing. We were hoping for an undefeated season. That was my goal, something Florida’s never done here. But I promise you one thing, a lot of good will come out of this. You will never see any player in the entire country pad my stats as hard as I will during the Cotton Bowl, and you will never see someone push the rest of the team away from playing as hard as I will push, and you will never see a team play dumber and with such poor effort than we will. God bless.
And thus another gator legend is born.

For a team that made a living off of winning against teams missing several key players (almost every single game), nobody feels sorry for them. Dan wasted a golden opportunity this season by having an experienced offense return and almost every opponent snake bitten on top of the easiest schedule…FTMF.
