“I don’t mess with Jack,” Smart said of the player named the Peach Bowl offensive MVP.. “I don’t mess with kickers. I let them do their thing. Probably the best thing to happen is he didn’t have long to think about it.” — AB-H, 1/1/21
SOD = 15-21 (4-19)
That’s 36 games, but you get the point.

SNAFU, FUBAR, & FIGMO for those in the portal or bailing out.

I’ll probably get some flak for looking at it this way . . . but Tennessee by all rights should be capable of putting out a better product. Good facilities, Knoxville’s a nice medium size city, only big time program in the state, good tradition (still ahead of us in wins), state population ahead of several other SEC states, yada yada. They’re doing okay in other sports.
The decline started before Fulmer came back on board, so he may not be the only problem. Mike Hamilton is an easy target. I note that they’re on their sixth athletic director since 2000.

Since you’re touring the state, don’t forget the BBQ in Memphis and Dollywood….

BBQ yes, Gatlinburg . . . nah. I’m too old to elope.

Nashville and it’s explosive growth should start yielding great high school talent sooner rather than later, like Atlanta has done for GA. But Memphis is so far away…it’s closer to at least four other SEC schools and probably just as close to Baton Rouge and Columbia MO. I don’t follow recruiting closely enough to know which school does best in Memphis, so maybe I’m off base about Tennessee being able to own that area.

Alabama’s pretty good at “recruiting” in Memphis as I recall, if you know what I mean….

The interlopers flooding Nashville will not allow kids to play football. They won’t be able to build enough Lacrosse and soccer fields there.

*barely still ahead of us in absolute number of wins – on current trajectories, we should pass them in 5 years or less…

That tradition is starting to mimic Rutgers and University of Chicago at this point. They have a losing SEC record for this century.

In Andy Staples’ mailbag today, a fan asks the question that warms the cockles of my heart: “ Exactly how many cooks are currently in the kitchen in Knoxville, and why do they keep serving up mayo sandwiches to their fans?”

Ha haaa! It ain’t even mayo in those T sammiches. it’s Hellman’s Salad Dressing. The true “devil’s spooge”.

All SEC schedule wasn’t kind to UT either. Not that I care.

Any possibility Wanya Morris is entering the portal to come home? We could always use a tackle.

I saw a headline that he entered the portal yesterday.

UTknox is a disaster. but 1st 2 years’ comparison, cupcakes aside SEC Only-
Booch: 5-11 vs SEC
Pruitt: 7-9 vs SEC. This year Pruitt lost 2 cupcakes & gained 2 more SEC games, but no doubt misery loves company. Now replacing a D minded guy with another D minded HC, in the new age of Offense, now that’s gonna be a site to see. UT & Phil gonna be a nasty divorce.

Even with the defections of the two coaching staff members already and the addition of Steele, there are reports of other coaches, including Tee Martin, also talking to other schools. Add in players that are entering the portal, and I can’t help but think that even if UT sticks with Pruitt this offseason that 2021 will be his last year. Replacing mass defections from the coaching staff with quick hires in a sinking ship rarely proves to be a success. Phat Phil, SOD, and Booch all had to replace numerous coaches the offseason before the season that they were fired during or at the end of.

They have literally made it impossible for Pruitt at this point. If I were him, I’d be on the horn to Saban to see if he can bail me out.

On the bright side, when he’s inevitably let go from this job, he’ll be easily hirable because UT made it so hard on him that losing couldn’t possibly be his fault.
My God, they’ve done it. UT has made me actually root for fucking Pruitt. SMDH.

It’s kind of crazy to me that Tennessee’s high water mark since winning the East in 2007 is a 9-4 season where they choked away the Eastern division title.

Pruitt had an all SEC schedule this year. Not a valid comparison.
