We already know what the pundits will be singing about Georgia between now and September. But Matt Hinton brings up another song we’re probably going to hear a few times, too.
3. Did Florida blow its best shot?
By most lights, the Gators hit every major milestone they needed to hit to claim another solid step forward in Dan Mullen’s 3rd season: They beat Georgia, won the SEC East and remained in the thick of the Playoff race well into December, all while producing the program’s first bona fide Heisman candidate since Tim Tebow.
And yet the ending – a 3-game losing streak, including humiliations at the hands of a shorthanded, lame-duck version of LSU in the regular-season finale and Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl – undeniably left a sour taste that’s going to linger well into the offseason. With Kyle Trask and his top 3 targets are all on their way out, there’s a palpable sense for the first time under Mullen that the Gators are due for a step back.
That’s a shame.
But the coaching staff are genius at coaching ’em up and will level that ol’ playing field, no doubt. LOL. Has Trask announced he’s returning, then?

Well, Urbz’ll need a good QB coach like Dan to help with Trevor Lawrence – no time for getting like the present…

I thought the same thing when I heard on the radio yesterday that Corch and the Jags were in “advanced negotiations”. Nothing would do my heart more good than for Mullen to leave to go to the NFL in late January.

Stop it. As a jags fan, it’s already all I can do to stomach 1 former UF coach in my life.

That has to suck. Sorry, dude. At least for the first couple of years you can boo him when the team steps on their collective “members”. Cause that team will struggle for a while.

Not me. I would rather Mullin stay at Florida. I don’t want to give Florida a chance to hire someone better.

Why would you want Cousin Eddie to leave Floriduh???
I hope he stays there forever!

Oh, I can listen to that song all day long. Can’t wait for the sequel when we give them the beating for the ages next fall.

I think Hinton is under selling what we saw and learned while watching the Cotton Bowl. Without Pitts and Toney the offense is bad and it didn’t get any better after benching Trask.
The idea that Mullen is a QB whispering offensive genius took a massive hit that day.

Florida is in a good recruiting position, much like UGA. Lots of talent nearby if you can convince them to stay home.
I’m not sure DM can convince them.
This is why I don’t want to see the Florida Boys breaking up the band anytime soon. There’s a good storm brewing down there and it needs to be left alone to mature.

I certainly hope Dopey Dan & Towel Boy stay in Gainesville. Here’s what we face in the East next year:
Gators on the rebuild again. Can’t wait.
Rocky Flop: Could be Vandy’s 1st win. Mushmouth again or not?
Cackalacky: No coaches; no players; could be Vandy’s 2nd win
Kentucky: Always good, but no serious concern
Vandy: Total rebuild of coaches & players, no threat
Mizzou: Outside of Gators would be toughest East game. JT get’s it done.
GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I made the comment when Hinton posted this that for SDS, this was a pretty impressive piece of writing. That site is in love with Sideshow Dan the Clown which means most of their writers think Kirby is a moron. Not just too stubborn as some of us think here, but an actual moron. It’s to be expected due to all of the Floriduh and Tennessee grads they employ, but all the Cousin Eddie love does get old there.
I’m thinking Sideshow Dan is the same coach he was as MSU, and why anyone thinks differently is beyond me. Once every 3-4 years he’ll have Floriduh actually contending with Georgia for the East, which means that one year will be wrapped around 2-3 years of Jacksonville ass-kickings.
I can live with that.

Mullen will not be the UF coach after 2021. They will not tolerate another loss to us. Their patience is already running thin.

CJ, you realize, of course, that if Mullen’s gone WE loose Grantham. Now THAT would be tragic!

First off- FTMF. Now…that said…It is hard to envision Mullen keeping his wits about him as Diaz and Norvell ramp up the recruiting pressure and positive vibes/momentum in-state. Add to those the return to status quo in Jax starting this fall, and we might see a spectacular emotional meltdown out of DM, the likes of which we might never have seen, nor will see again. As a result, I fear that he may not be around for too much longer. Let’s just appreciate him while we have him.
