I’m glad he’s staying, if for no other reason than I’m not sure I’m ready for Georgia defensive coordinator Will Muschamp quite yet.

“Not playing for NIL deals. Not playing to go viral. Not playing for TikTok,” (Nolan) Smith said. “Playing for the guy next to you and being able to push with him through tough situations. I would love for the guys to take that into next year. Don’t play for money. Play for your ‘why’ — why you play football.”-- The Athletic, 7/20/22
I have no use for Madchump. Sorry Kirby tossed him a lifeline…hope he proves me wrong by helping.

Prolly true, but he does have a lotta reps with/against Bobo, Cheney, Mullen. Guess that could be nice?

Agree on Muschamp. That’s a lot of baggage to unpack in Athens right now.

I’m thrilled to have Lanning back! He’s a good coach, great recruiter, and we need quality people to stick around. I’m happy to have Muschamp as an analyst, but I’m not ready for him to be DC. He’s dead to me as a Bulldog after the comments he made about the school.

You can say that you would maintain total loyalty. I don’t have to believe you.

Schumann would probably take over if he had left. So no Agent Muschamp.

Muschamp will be an analyst in 2021, and probably until his son finishes school here. If/When Lanning and Schumann leave, I also believe Muschamp will be Kirby’s DC.

Kirby is paying Boom back for hiring Kirby for his first paying job as a coach. Boom will “not” ever be DC because Kirby is only going to run his defense and their styles clash.

If Kirby ever decides to hire Muschamp as our DC, I trust that he knows what he’s doing. As a fan, we can get our feelings hurt because of some comments Muschamp made as (checks notes) the HEAD COACH of our biggest rival. But at the end of the day, Kirby doesn’t really GAS about that and wants to hire the best coaches for UGA.

The head coach of our biggest rival is now a glorified grad assistant for us. Kirby may as well mount his head on a wall.

Wonder how Mr. Mason feels that UGA DC used social media to #LetsRunItBack…..

I understood UT trying to hire Lanning, but I never thought he would go because it’s basically a step down laterally. He is a DC here and isn’t being sought as a HC; the talent he has here is a known entity and is better than it would be there; money is always a factor, but it isn’t as if he is on minimum wage here.

I can’t imagine Boom would get a whole lot of rope with the fan base if he ever became DC.

Kirby probably told Dan the same thing that Saban told Kirby when he was close to taking the Georgia DC job – stay here, learn, win, and land a big HC job.

My biggest concern on the defensive staff is Schuman. I’d give Lanning up to keep Schuman if it came to that. He’s probably our 2nd best recruiter and will be a DC somewhere and soon.

I must be foolish, but I really don’t see Kirby bringing Muschamp in for an on-field position. I know they’re buddies, and I know his kid on the roster, but Kirby wants a guy who can recruit and coach, and I don’t see Muschamp bringing that to the table right now.

I would say the fact that an offensive mastermind like Sarkisian wanted our DC against whom he played this past season leading his defense is a pretty big compliment and says a lot about how solid his scheme is. Just wish Kirby would loosen up a bit on gap integrity and unleash the pass rush talent we have a bit more.

Lanning (and Kirbys) D looked very suspect this year. Couldn’t stop or slow down any decent offense we faced this year.
