No, the pandemic ended at noon today. First everyone said it would be over Nov. 3. Then everyone said Dec 10, then Jan 6. So now we’re at the last possible date so I guess the “plandemic” is officially over?

We’ve certainly had a lot of problems over the last five decades. But things are also pretty great. We have a standard of living that only a small percentage of societies currently have worldwide and we’re light-years above where we were 50 years ago. This notion that the country is falling apart and we have to do radical things to blow up the system and prevent it is going to be a self-fulfilling prophecy if people keep chasing it.

I’m in complete agreement. I was no fan of Trump, but I also strongly believe that people who have spent literally half a century off the public dime are not the best choices to lead the country.

We are the envy of the world (even to those who don’t necessarily like us) and it’s critical to ensure individual liberties so that this experiment continues.

Government force is the instrument of change. Are there two sides to domestic terrorism, insurrection and mobs sent to deprive Americans of their choice?

I have to respect that point of view?

I have to say its ok to lie and say the election was stolen? Lets have a respectful debate about undermining public trust in our democracy?

            No. Fuck that.

The people who sowed that doubt and lit that flame and the people who lacked the judgment to understand that they were being lied to need to pay a price. I owe them nothing but contempt and thats all they’re getting from me.

If your point is that I framed the debate this way BEFORE 1/6/21, its because I saw this coming. You should have too. We all should have seen it coming. You can only lie to and scare people for so long before they lose their gd minds.

The left hasn’t spent 40 years making their fellow citizens into monsters to be feared even above Putin. The right did that.

The first thing we need to embrace is FACT and TRUTH.

Oh, I’m also not a Democrat, but by all means don’t stop assuming you know where I stand. That’s a big part of the reason our politics are so screwed up in the first place.

              Like

              • I think a big part of the reason politics are screwed up is the indignant ignorance of some people. You don’t know what other presidents have done, but you definitely know that whatever they did, it wasn’t worse than Trump. That kind of righteous indignation practically requires ignorance. Because if you knew what past presidents had done (both Democrats and Republicans) you would understand that Trump is just another asshole in a long line of assholes. Better than some. Worse than others.

I know what I’m talking about, and it is intellectually lazy to dismiss 45 as “just another asshole in a long line of assholes.” You, on the other hand, do nothing but troll, insult, and inject “whataboutisms” into every political discussion here. If you’re concerned about ignorance, you have a strange way of trying to correct it.

                  Liked by 3 people

                • Context is always important. If Trump’s mean tweets have caused you to believe that he’s the worst president in history, then you are quite ignorant of American history. American presidents have ordered illegal assassinations of foreign leaders as well as coups for regime change. They have spied on domestic political enemies. They have imprisoned journalists. FDR sent 120k American citizens to concentration camps. Not illegal immigrants temporarily detained while officials rule on their status. American citizens indefinitely held because they were Asian. I could go on. Books have been written on corruption that goes well beyond anything Trump did.

But insisting that Trump is the worst just trivializes the actual bad things. You’re concluding that mean tweets is worse than sending people to concentration camps based on their race. You become a parody.

When Obama took office, the annual operating deficit was well over a trillion dollars, with even conservative economists saying unemployment would hit 20% if the govt went full austerity.

Obama reduced that by half to around $500 billion. Trump almost tripled it prior to Covid.

The only 2 Presidents in your lifetime to balance the federal budget: Carter and Clinton.

The only three Presidents in your lifetime to reduce the annual operating deficit, two of them by $500 billion a year: Carter, Clinton, and Obama.

Republican Presidents, with big assists from predominantly Republican Congresses, create massive deficits.

This was the first huge issue causing me to leave the Republican Party. They were all talk and no walk on that issue,

When they get the WH, no matter who has the congress, they go on a spending spree. Drunken sailors on a credit card. And no one pays the bill. They cut taxes and take in less and spend more.

They know both artificially create good short term economic conditions AND it comprises the government’s ability to maintain its commitments.

They said 30 years ago what the goal was: reduce government to the size it could be drug into the bathroom and drowned.

You want to get rid of Social Security and Medicare?

You can’t win elections on it but what you can do is bankrupt the government so that it can no longer be paid for. That is the plan.

The fact is, Carter, Clinton, Obama, and all the Republican presidents since before the Great Depression left office with higher national debt than when they entered office. Again, ignoring unfunded liabilities. Biden will also join the club.

According to Got Sr.’s allegedly reliable source Sheldon was one of the bag handlers at…You guessed it…The McDonalds lunch table!
I have no idea if the McDonalds thing is true or not but I’m reallt enjoying the idea of it giving the vowels a serious case of IBS.

If you truly do not let any predetermined biases affect your thoughts and decisions then I applaud you. It is very difficult to do. That’s why science relies on well designed, blinded, reproducible studies to arrive at the “truth”. Even then, unintentional bias can creep in.

    No snark when I say:

Inauguration Day is officially a celebration day in my home from now on.

For 50+ years, all I have known is people – both sides – complaining about our country and every thing wrong with it. 3 days a year we celebrated our country, and 362 we let our radios and TVs tell us how it was going to hell in a hand basket.

Historically speaking, a day like this is a damn miracle. And we absolutely have taken it for granted.

Celebrate it. No matter how you voted.

God Bless the USA. We’ve got a lot of sins to reconcile. And it’s still the greatest country the world has ever known.

Probably because Biden’s team isn’t taking multi million dollar payments on the side from Putin’s oligarchs.

Trump sent the entire DOJ and American intelligence community after Biden’s campaign. Came up with squat.

The make-believe world you inhabit is just spectacular. You’ve turned yourself into a lemming in the greater cause of enriching Pander Media personalities. Who don’t even have to be clever about it. They can completely contradict the laughable conspiracy they were pushing last week with this week’s content – because you’re that malleable. You’re that easy a mark.

        Congrats?

        • You’ve got me all wrong. I’m on your side. Biden using his office to enrich his family is good politics. Trump looking into it was an impeachable offense. Russians hacking the 2016 election is a given. Irregularities in 2020 when a candidate who didn’t campaign won more votes than ever despite performing more poorly in every bellweather county but one and doing worse among minority voters than the candidate who lost in 2016 is a conspiracy. Why? Because it’s our side! That’s why!

You’re Tom Parsons. Willingly and gleefully parroting whatever Big Brother tells you is the truth.

Hand recounts? Paper ballots? Extensive audits? 2nd recounts? Republican election officials trying to explain to you how votes are verified? Against death threats directed at them and their families?

Too complicated. You’re too lazy. Just pick up your Babylon Bee and Daily Stormer and blindly regurgitate whatever they tell you.

Reliable useful idiot. Can’t think for yourself.

            • Again, you’re confusing your sides. Evidence is bullshit. Democrats good. Republicans bad. Can you follow that? It’s not that hard.

Statistical irregularities are nonsense. Adding thousands of ballots days after the polls close is fine. Millions of voters may not have confidence in elections, but why should we give a damn? Shut up proles! The truth is what we leftists say it is. Russians hacked the 2016 election. Do we have evidence for that claim? Of course not. Do we need it? Of course not.

The tariffs weren’t meant to raise tariff revenue. It was meant to reestablish manufacturing in the US and encourage investment in India. You may not be aware of this, but the People’s Republic of China is using slave labor.

Had it been up to me China wouldn’t have been given MFN status without significant human rights concessions.

We trusted an ideology that said that freedom would follow capitalism as naturally as spring follows winter. It didn’t happen. They got rich, but they didn’t get free.

The right doesn’t own that alone but it was the right, Nixon and then Bush 41, who really opened up the doors to China’s rise to economic and military prominence.

Imho, we need to be willing to suffer whatever economic hardships may befall us in making sure that China, and the rest of the world, understands the economic rewards of free societies will not be used to enrich anti-democratic tyrants anywhere and everywhere.

We need a similar plan to confront China to the one George Kennan put together to confront and defeat the USSR.

The sooner the better. And start with that sawed off little evil fuck in Pyongyang. No more photo ops and handshakes.

            Terminate. With extreme prejudice.

However, I just don’t think we can have our chain rattled by that guy with China’s tacit endorsement indefinitely. I’m not suggesting military options initially either. 38. Is this your homework Larry?

Trump is a conundrum that I’ve spent too long analyzing. His greatest achievement was transforming the Republican party into his image. He managed to grasp the anger of the middle class American people and create a tidal wave populist movement. Even though he lost the election, he made gains with his base of white working-class voters and inner-city Black Americans and Latino minorities. Any Republican running for office will still have to get his endorsement or mention his name (at least for the next few years).

If he wasn’t a hyper-narcissist, arrogant, sociopath he could have surrounded himself with people who had the ability and knowhow to actually achieve solutions. His obsession on ultimate loyalty, golfing during a pandemic, and Twitter pissing matches cost him the election. A friend of mine stated the other day, “Trump won the Twitter battle, but lost the war.” If the die-hards that stormed the Capitol would step back and re-group, they would recognize that even though they feel defeated in terms of the election, Trump has proven that someone willing to hear their opinion and listen to their grievances can get elected.

For context, I am not Trump supporter and donated to the Sanders campaign, but I will give credit where it’s due. Trump did not increase our military presence overseas during his term (reducing it), he did not start or expand a war, he commuted the sentences of many low level drug offenders such as Alice Marie Johnson:

    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-commutes-sentence-grandmother-serving-life-drug-charges-after-kim-n880291

    And a friend of mine:

    https://fox17.com/news/local/president-trump-pardons-nashville-businessman

He made moves to decentralize the US government (such as moving the BLM agency from DC to Colorado) and he changed the US government’s hiring practice giving more priority to an applicant’s job skills over a college degree (the government being the nation’s largest employer).

Biden being President won’t affect me personally or financially and I’ll keep on trucking like normal. While I consider Trump a Presidential failure, for good or for bad, he set this country on a new path that won’t change anytime soon.

The Proud Boys’ anger toward Mr. Trump has heightened after he did nothing to help those in the group who face legal action for the Capitol violence. On Wednesday, a Proud Boy leader, Joseph Biggs, 37, was arrested in Florida and charged with unlawful entry and corruptly obstructing an official proceeding in the riot. At least four other members of the group also face charges stemming from the attack.

He fucked them and he’d fuck you if he had the chance.
