Per the good folks at sicemdawgs.com:
From here, that looks like a very manageable schedule. The opener’s a challenge, of course, but from there, I don’t see many serious roadblocks. And Georgia’s November kinda looks like what we used to kid about Tennessee’s November.
There are eight straight conference games that run between UAB and Charleston Southern. And South Carolina moves back to the early part of the schedule. (Insert Spurrier snark here.)
What do y’all see?
I don’t hate it. I just hope a.) it gets played and b.) I can go to all of the home games.

I see a schedule that includes Missouri instead of another SEC West team

If we win in Charlotte we may be on a free roll in Atlanta.
Gotta stay healthy.
The only surprises could be the younger qb in gainesville (Richardson??) and if somehow Harsin and co. start getting the best out of Nix. Our play in sec west stadiums has been atrocious under cks. Even the wins have been a struggle.
Looks like we’ve got 4 games post clemson to get in an offensive groove before either of those potential challenges.

Sure hope the boys don’t get caught in a look-ahead to Auburn when Arkansas comes to town. I think we saw several examples last year that ol’ Coach Pittman knows how to get a football team ready to fight.

Possibly, but doesn’t help them that Franks declared last month. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Plumlee transfer if Corral grabs the position entirely in the spring at Ole Miss.

Why do we play Arkansas after playing them last year? Makes no sense.

It was originally in the rotation pre-covid and logistically easier to not alter said rotation. Probably why we at least went on the road to Arkansas last year to the extent they had the flexibility to not have complete repeats.

2020 was a one-off in terms of scheduling. This is what our 2020 would have “normally” looked like minus COVID.

Yeah, how can Jones start over Richardson? I can’t imagine that happens for more than 1 or 2 games.

I see 11-1 and a trip to Atlanta to face the Tide in a de facto national quarterfinal. If we both happened to arrive in Atlanta 12-0, it would be the 2021 version of the game of the century.
Auburn in October still sucks. That game should be in November, period.

In the end, I’m not that upset by that. Having a bunch of motivated Georgia residents playing for Auburn trying to spoil a UGA championship season in November kind of sucked all those years. Better to play Florida late and UT in November and for the division. And no chance now for that basically back to back games if meeting them in the the SECCG.
LikeLike
If we both arrive in Atl at 12-0 the game of the century might feature both team’s backups since we’ll both probably be in the CFP regardless. It’ll be another feather in the cap of “conference championship games are a waste of time.”

I was mostly joking, but the more I think about this the more I think it’s a real possibility. Neither coach will want to show their hand with the possibility of an eventual rematch looming.

That hide the playbook is very overrated. I expect both teams to do everything it takes to win.

But what if you could still tie in football ? Hell the 2011 LSU-Bama regular season game (in hindsight) was a total surrender to easy, almost coordinated gameplanning. Neither coach deviated from the media script of 3yards and a cloud of dust.

If both teams are 12-0 the SECCG would be a meaningless waste of time. You may think it’s overrated, but Kirby and Saban are meticulous about hiding information.

Then mark me down and stop interacting with me. It’s only a “championship game” because the SEC says it is and everyone just buys it. How brain dead would you have to be to believe that a 2 loss Florida would have actually been worthy of a championship had they managed to upset Bama in Atl.

I don’t get this take…the SECCG is meaningless, but #16 vs. #1 in the CFB playoffs is important? We “all knew” 2 loss FL would lose to Bama, but Coastal Carolina could be a Cinderella?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I don’t understand your point. SECCG’s are unnecessary and Cinderella’s in the playoff are a stupid idea. Why would those concepts be mutually exclusive? What do G5’s in the playoff have to do with P5 championship games?

If Bama were to lose, yes, they would probably be in the CFP. If we were to lose, I don’t see the committee giving us the benefit of the doubt even with a win over Clemson on the resume, and Herbstreit will make sure to get the word out there that Georgia isn’t deserving.
LikeLiked by 3 people
I don’t think that’s a realistic take unless there are a few undefeated conference champions out there. In which case Bama wouldn’t get in with a loss either.
LikeLike
So is it important or not?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Unnecessary would be the phrase I would use. At times it can be relevant, but if you take P5 championship games in totality more often than not they don’t tell us much. What did we learn in Atlanta last year? Bama is better than Florida? Well no shit.
LikeLike
Has a loser of a conference championship game gotten in yet? The only way I see us getting in with a loss in the SECCG is a similar game to 2012 or 2018 where the 2 teams play a game where Bama wins the game late. A 3-point loss where we score late to make the game closer than it appears won’t be enough.

I realize what I’m about to say may sound crazy, but look again at the schedule after you read what I say and reread what I say:
If we can’t go undefeated against the SEC portion of this schedule, then Georgia should honestly consider if Kirby Smart needs to be the head coach moving forward.
This is the kind of schedule built to launch playoff runs. If Kirby can’t take advantage this year, if he can’t at the very least get to Atlanta, then he doesn’t need to be our head coach anymore.

Pre-emptive hot seat? Hot seats are stupid.
Just making a statement that shouldn’t at all be ridiculous.
If Kirby can’t go 8-0 in the SEC with THIS schedule, with the talent he’s assembled on the field and on the sideline, then no, he shouldn’t be our head coach.
There is no valid reason in hell Georgia should have a loss in SEC play in 2021.

They also lost their superstar QB. Yeah they got Uiaglelelelel’lalala back there now but he ain’t no Trevor. A stud filled defense doesn’t mean shit if you can’t score as we are all well aware.

Yeah dude… they don’t have Chaney or Coley at OC or Kirby at head coach who wants to stop his own offense from scoring, they have Elliot at OC and Dabo at head coach.
They’re going to have NO PROBLEM scoring points.
Not even in the same galaxy. Terrible analogy.

Did you watch him put up 40 points against a decent ND defense?
Dude, again, it’s not just the QB, it’s the OFFENSE. The offense is designed to score points.
Your analogy is bad. DJ-U will be a good QB, but even if he’s only half the QB that Lawrence was, that Clemson offense will still put up points.
LikeLike
Ah yes, he had a good performance against one team. He must be the next Heisman.
All I’m saying is that its reasonable to expect a drop off in offense when you lose the Hesiman runner up. I’d be more worried about Clemson if they returned all 11 of their starting offense.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Having a drop off isn’t the same thing as comparing your expected drop-off to Georgia’s offense, which, coordinated by two idiots and overseen by a head coach allergic to scoring as many points as possible is not in the same universe as this situation in Clemson where the offense is of a proven design no matter who the QB is (Kelly Bryant won a conference title and got them into the Playoff) and the head coach is Dabo who has never stepped in to stop his offense from scoring no matter how many points they’re winning by in the fourth quarter.
It’s just a bad analogy all-around.
Had you just said they’d have some drop-off, I’d agree and say that’s possible.

Young? They have a 5th year senior returning for a 6th year because he has zero prospects of an NFL future. A guy they basically have to hide in their defense to make sure he doesn’t end up in man coverage because he’s slow and a poor tackler. Then you have a fairly underwhelming 3 star in Zanders. If the line can give JT time we should be able to exploit those two assuming they don’t lose their starting jobs in camp.
