Post signing day, SEC tally

Here’s how the 247Sports Composite shapes up after yesterday:

And, a few observations:

  • Alabama’s class, not to put too fine a point on it, is obscene.  For perspective, the gap between Alabama’s class points and Georgia’s (third nationally) is the same as the gap between Georgia’s and Florida’s.
  • Saban signed seven five-star recruits.  The rest of the SEC combined signed eight.
  • Speaking of Georgia, only three teams in the conference signed fewer players than the Dawgs’ 20.
  • One of those is South Carolina, which, in signing only thirteen, managed to finish behind Vanderbilt.  I can only assume Shane Beamer is going to be hitting the transfer portal hard.
  • You know who’s thrilled about early signing day?  Josh Heupel is thrilled about early signing day.  At least for now, as two of UT’s top signees from then want releases.
  • The point gap between Alabama and Auburn exceeds 122.  Every team in the West finished above the Tigers.  South Carolina won’t be the only program scouring the transfer portal, methinks.

Anything you guys want to share, share in the comments.

Even though Auburn is last in the West, there’s hope that these players will actually be developed and then allowed to play based on ability and not politics.

What you really should also say us you hope your QB responds to coaching and learns that things that worked in high school don’t work in the SEC.

  2. Sam Pittman may have learned a thing or two while he was in Athens. He may not be building a monster to rival Bama, but that’s a program clearly on the rise. If I were Oeaux and Fisher, I would be glancing over my shoulder.

South Carolina … Instead of a cannon shot, I think that’s a pop gun, and that doesn’t even count the loss of Stockton.

Handbags, that talent gap ain’t closing. You may have caught lightning in a bottle in November, but we’re coming.

Barners, you ran off arguably the coach with the most success against the coach of your big brother. You may be paying for that for the next 5 years (and I’m not talking about Gus’s buyout).

Shane Beamer made a really pitiful attempt at spin in regards to the size and quality of his class. My wife cares nothing about football and was laughing at what he said.

I know I shouldn’t look forward like this, but with a win on the Plains this year we will have 8 straight seasons of beating Auburn. With a recruiting class like they pulled in yesterday I can’t help but fantasize about how high that number could go. It’s pretty staggering when you think about it.

Almost universally fugly, for the SEC. That said, I think this is going to be a highly unpredictable class, as some players didn’t play HS seasons, most were cut short, and none went to camps this year. I’ll be shocked if many freshmen play meaningful minutes in 2021. Unless there is no one else to play their position (looking at you, Tennessee).

    • Some of those freshman DBs are going to have to play meaningful minutes for us. I agree with you about the unpredictability in this class although a lot of our guys have been committed for quite some time.

The only way UGA and the rest of the country closes the gap with Bama is when Saban retires. The man has built a dynasty the likes of which we haven’t seen.

As Dabo showed, you get a great qb, a really good d front and pretty soon you’re beating them 44-16 despite their recruiting rankings.

No one thinks they should win the MNC every year….but damn, they have been consistent…..and F Clempson.

They’re a worthy foe. I’ll grant you that.

Every 3 or 4 year player for Saban since 2008 has at least one NC. Amazing.

As “The Process” goes, CKS will recruit well, winning titles/trophies are the shiny toys that will bring those recruits that make a difference (as little nicky will tell those who listen)…until then, UGA will be 2nd…winning against the bammers 1-2 times a year is UGA’s future for a while….

How did rocky flop finish 6th in conference with that dumpster fire going on? Can’t wrap my mind around that one.

Obscene is definitely the best word to define Bama’s class. But I suppose actually winning championships goes a long way. The leaked video of Saban’s recruiting pitch is pretty spot on.

Nice class….hard to complain about finishing #3 in the nation.

Alabama’s depth is out of control.

On the other hand the second greatest class ever (UF 2010) went 1-3 versus Georgia. So we got that going for us. Which is nice.

Just taking 20 hurt the point total, that’s for sure. I guess Arnold was the only guy we were holding a spot for. Not to be a downer, but if LSU signs instate receiver Brian Thomas as expected, they jump ahead of us by one point.
