Don’t @ him, please.

The latest in a line of bold claims from UCF:

Ummm… he may have a point there.

Well, the new AD at UCF definitely has that “UCF Energy” going just like Danny White did.

As long as they’re just poking fun at Sideshow Dan the Clown and Floriduh and not claiming fake National Titles, it stays funny.

Urban is technically excluded from the conversation bc he is coaching the Jags. But still. The Jags might lose to Bama.

He is the only who’s taken his team to a national title game. As lucky as that was, he did get there.

I think it may be a good fit for them both. Hopefully, the new AD down there will agree to UF’s conditions and schedule some games.

    • And I grudgingly admit that he was the perfect OC for Cam Newton. And they WON that one. Gene Chizik was in the right place at the right time. And then he got shit-canned two years later. Why is Auburn the soap opera on the SEC? “As the Eagle Turns.”

Seriously, from secret tarmac meetings on a private jet, to Bobby Lauder, to the fact that Tubberville was in the Capital on January 6. Drama drama drama…

My supposition is that qbs who aspire to play at auburn and the like want to throw and don’t like getting hit in the run game. If gus can recruit some qbs who got passed over by the bigger schools and have a chip on their shoulders and are ready for some contact, he could make some noise down there.

The biggest problem gus had at auburn was that he couldn’t recruit a Cam or a Nick Marshall. Guys that are willing and effective runners and who can pass it just enough. You wouldn’t think it would be that hard but it clearly was.

          I think he did, actually.

He was an early adopter of using the 3 yard rule and pace to open up the running game.

But he never really evolved past that, and defenses adjusted.

His real super power is getting his team jacked for a late season peak. They rode the emotion and chaos wave pretty damn well. Also wiped out more often than not, but catching the 60 foot wave and riding it a couple of times will get you on the leaderboard.

He could be a great fit for UCF. That’s exactly what they’re hoping for.

Name one hs qb gus signed at auburn that did anything.

Cam, Marshall and stidham were all transfers.

All the qb recruits gus signed out of hs washed out. Bo Nix is the best qb he’s had straight out of hs. He got fired while Bo was the starter.

I think that failure to recruit that position really held him back. Its one reason I never understood why Auburn threw all that money at him. Can’t invest that much money in a guy who can’t recruit the qb position.

A great QB on the field can make a coach look like a genius…..as long as you have some great competent/good playmakers there too.

It takes a team, but the QB position is the most important in the field.

Well, he recruited the transfers. It’s not like Auburn was their only choice.

Out of high school? He recruited a lot of guys with good wheels and average throwing ability. He also had Jeremy. Then Sean White, for example, who came in with a ton of accolades and won the national Nike event. There were others.

Maybe Gus just had a knack for finding the busts. Or maybe his offense, which was a perfect fit for Cam, and enough of a fit with Nick and the rabbit’s foot, just didn’t work nearly as well once teams figured out how to defense it, which was, to Gus’s credit, in part a long-term personnel overhaul.

I don’t think he really knows how to develop QBs. He just thinks he does.

Gene Chizik was a lucky sumbitch, for sure. It took a year or three, but this airport heckler was eventually proven right.

  5. UCF could have done a lot worse than Gus. Arguably, the Orlando crowd has traded up on the head coach front over Heupel. If Gus can make recruiting life difficult for Dopey, that would work for me.

I don’t think it’s going out on a limb to call him the best head coach in Florida.

According to The Athletic, Monken was being targeted for the UCF job. Had not heard that elsewhere.

    • If that’s true, Monken isn’t leaving Athens for anything but a good Power 5 head coaching job. UCF is arguably the best Gof5 job in the country and is better than a ton of Power 5 jobs.

I’m not saying he was offered the job and turned it down. I’m only saying if they asked to interview and he said no.

Is Malzahn an upgrade from Huepel?

Tennessee fans have to be questioning a lot of things right now.

Who was the idiot who asked Malzahn if he understood the “pressure cooker” of working at UCF???

Please, please, please tell me it was Mike Bianchi, because nothing would be more on-brand for that moron than that question.

This is some pretty rich irony.
I wonder if Gus is going to recognize UCF’s winning a natty against Auburn?
I wish some reporter would ask him that.

  11. Festivus has come early. Let us rejoice at the misery of our rivals.

UCF will finish their 2021 season ranked higher than Auburn & Tennessee.

The pressure of the SEC and the annual Iron Bowl pales in comparison to the high powered UCF traditions. Poor old Gus is in over his head. Seriously, the potential for him to be a thorn in Mullen’s side should put a smile on every Dawg’s face.

Only in an off-to-the-side kind of way unless Stricklin breaks down and schedules them. That probably becomes something less likely to happen now that the Gus Bus is parked in Orlando, I would think.

He already got them a national title. How much more pressure could there be?
