Phil Steele’s projected 2021 AP Top Ten, preseason

It’s an exercise he goes through every spring, and he’s been ten for ten the last three years.  Here’s his prediction for the first top ten list of this season:

  1. Alabama
  2. Clemson
  3. Georgia
  4. Oklahoma
  5. Ohio State
  6. Texas A&M
  7. Notre Dame
  8. North Carolina
  9. Iowa State
  10. Cincinnati

Is ESPN’s coverage of Georgia’s opener going to be so over the top that it’s a turnoff?  Asking for a friend…

I don’t think Herbie and tOSU will allow Georgia to be ranked higher than the Buckeyes.

Here’s the real shitter about the top 4…UGA football plays and defeats clemmons by 2 points in the opener..they switch positions at 2 & 3..UGA football plays the bammers in the seccg, if that final score is 1-3 points either way, those teams won’t drop one position at the most..the final 4 could pit UGA football in rematches of clemmons and or the bammers…should UGA football want to make that jump into the upper conversation, now is the time to put on those BIG boy pants….

  4. To your question at the end: nothing can be worse than the SEC Twitter’s constant deep throating of all things Bama.

It’ll be a Clemson love fest with all the talking heads saying how UGA can’t beat Clemson with all their returning firepower and Ukelele at QB. Then, at halftime after the DAWGS bitch-slap them it will be how it’s an off day for the Tigers and UGA just got lucky.

ESPN will talk for hours about “playoff implications” instead of focusing on the beauty of this amazing matchup and long-standing rivalry, and then turn around and do a segment where they ask, yet refuse to answer, the question, “Why are college football’s sacred traditions withering away?”

I am becoming more and more put off by the playoff all the time talk too. They should focus on two teams who are only 70 miles are so apart and who had such an amazing series in the 70s-80s, but it will be a playoff speculation party. Herbie did have us at number 1 in his Playoff poll after the 2014 game in Athens.

I know the talking heads are going to be insufferable, but I don’t care. I won’t watch a minute of it. I read what Senator posts and turn on the TV when the game starts. I do watch all the other games I care to, so I’m not quite so insulated from the BS, just as insulated as I can manage.

  10. Just a ranking, but not how they can end. We can’t be 3 with loss to Bama, Bama can’t be 1 with loss to us. Clemson can be 2 with loss to us and loss to Bama in final, but that’s a bit of a stretch. We’re either 1, 2 or bust it would seem. Same for the other guys.
