UPDATE:
NFL listed Jamie Newman among those who were to be available to media after UGA Pro Day tomorrow, but I'm told that Newman won't participate tomorrow and will go to Wake Forest's Pro Day. No official word from UGA on that.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23

Newman…he’s trying to get a transfer to Hawaii….

I’m glad Vandy canceled…so he didn’t get a Co-East ring.

I suppose its the kinder thing to do and generates the least bad publicity though.

If UGA was planning on handing out Co-East rings, I’m glad Vandy cancelled on general principle. 😉

Always Be ‘Crootin.
Kirby will be able to go into any recruit and transfer’s house and tell them they’ll always be Dawgs. Even if they fuck him, the team, and the fans over like Newman did, they’ll always be Dawgs.
We, on the other hand, can say FTMF and be done with it.

Kirby made that crystal clear with Fields. F—k Newman.

Whether it was for the reason given publicly or for some other reason, the kid made what he surely thought was the best decision for himself and his family and I guess I can’t fault him for that. I wish him well in the future, I just don’t consider him to be a Georgia Bulldog. That said, if Coach Smart does and if he wants him to get a chance for his pro audition in Athens, that’s good enough for me.

I thought that guy was out of the recruiting game and now worked for his dad’s irrigation company in Florida? 😉

Newnan will look better surrounded my Wake players than UGA players. Biggest fish in a puddle vs minnow in the ocean.

Like I said, Kirby threw him the invite to work out of Athens not because he cares about him, he’s probably as personally disgruntled with Newman as the rest of us are. He did it to say that he doesn’t have hard feelings when players make business decisions that are in their best interests.
Now he can take that into living rooms the country over, and at the end of the day, that’s all the matters.
For the rest of us, like I said: FTMF.

Of course, one could consider that Kirby knows a lot more about the situation than we do. Perhaps his should be the authoritative voice on the matter. If Kirby says he’s welcome in the program, then perhaps that means he should be. Now, I don’t consider him a Dawg, but I’m just saying maybe it’s OK if Kirby’s decided he can be an honorary one.

Alfred E. Newman has done as much good for our program as Jamie.

I doubt there is any player who opted out of the past season that will be as affected as Newman. A great season could have put him high in draft discussions. Now he’s not discussed at all. Hope it works out for him but I think he screwed himself.

Went from being one of the most talked about and anticipated college players in the sports media to… crickets. He’ll really have to show out now to get a sniff at the 1st round.

I think he’ll need to show out to not be late round or undrafted. First round ship sailed the second he left Georgia.

1st round? Lucky if it’s the 4th.

Can we skip ahead to the part where Newman is cut from the NFL and no longer a relevant person to mention with anything UGA-related?

He already isn’t. Have you thought about him in months? I haven’t.
The last time I thought about him was when it was reported that he would wear a Wake Forest helmet in the Senior Bowl (where he performed poorly) and I thought, “Good. He should never be allowed to wear a Georgia helmet.”
And that’s it.

I only think about him when I see these media mentions. Hence my comment.

I hope he continues his pattern of bad choices. if he comes to UGA our WR`s are certainly going to make him look better than those at Weak Forrest.

I took one summer class at Arizona State. I’m more of a Sun Devil than he is a Dawg, I believe…? If he did enroll in and complete classes, then I’m certainly willing to extend him the Bulldog moniker.

I went to Dekalb College that became Georgia Perimeter after I left and now my transcript from there says Georgia State so I guess I am more GSU Panther than Newman is Bulldog. 2 semesters worth.

Did he finish his masters at UGA since he was a grad transfer? If he did he is like me; a Dawg and a former college football player, but not a Dawg football player.

If McGarity was still around, guess he could’ve asked Newman for a contribution to the Reserve Fund in order to participate in the Pro-Day.
