Just like me

E.J. Liddell plays basketball for Ohio State, which lost its March Madness opener.  The social media reaction he received as a result was, at the least, none too friendly.

I only mention this because of a comment at the blog a couple of days ago to the effect that paying players offends some who wish to maintain the belief they’re like the players because they’ve gone to the same school.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t think that’s how it works these days.

  1. Social media is the devil’s playground. Jerks like these write whatever they want with some level of anonymity and write things they would never say to the person’s face or to the person’s family.

Was I frustrated with the guys who allowed Devonta Smith to run by them on 2nd and 26? Yes. I also can’t imagine the pain they felt after that play, and I never would wish ill on them as a result.

In my mind, it’s the same phenomenon that makes people drive like assholes. People get in their cars and do so many things that they would never do face to face. Why can’t people just act right?

      • Actually there’s been studies that show that people feel theyre in a bubble when there in their car.

Last week at Walmart, I started to step across the parking lot, a car accelerated, I stepped back, he slammed on the brakes then waved me across and then as he drove by called me a “bitch ass motherfucking nigger” he was black and I’m white, and said this isn’t a fucking cross walk. And that’s why I dont carry.

DammitChuck! First day of spring and it’s cloudy and cool on the Emerald Coast. Seems as if you’re experiencing onset delayed spring fever complicated by Chicom virus, aggravated winter blues, further exacerbated by lingering effects of the most recent debacle in J’ville.
As your shithouse attorney/physician/busybody I recommend a liter of Johnnie Walker Black followed by 20 ounces of Gatorade(gotta make some concessions to what works), two aspirins, a quart of water and then a pot of coffee tomorrow morning. Get in that kayak with your sweetie and go fishing.
And stay the fuck out of Walmart!

I had a twitter account because I enjoyed reading what players and fans said. I deleted it because it was such a trash pile. Shit like this is why we can’t have nice things.

    • I deleted my Twitter account last fall. It really is a cesspool of jackasses. I only keep my Facebook and Instagram accounts now so I can keep up with friends and share family pictures and fun stuff.

Delete them all. They all the same. Instagram can get you in as much trouble as Twitter. Just ask deshaun You don’t need Facebook unless you are 13 or 80 years old

I agree about most of social media. I only have facebook and I keep it to keep up with old friends from school who are spread all over the world. We keep it clear of politics and controversial stuff and talk about sports and stupid jokes. I hate it for anyone that gets their news and info from socials media.

This may be a good topic for GTP, Playpen maybe. What’s worth the time and what isn’t. IG is my only media site besides this one. Mostly trash but I’ve found some gems. Any recs would be nice.

      • After hurricane Michael, I removed all my friends from Facebook, and I only use it to track the local government and businesses in my immediate area like Saint Andrew’s farmers market.

Hurricane Michael showed me who was really a friend and who wasn’t, and that 75 people that I’ve known in life on Facebook weren’t it

      • I basically never used Twitter. I started using it with a dummy account for playstation 5 info and drops and now that I have one, no longer use it. I guarantee that I’d whip the shit out of about 90 95% of the people that Get off on name calling in attacking. And I’m not even that great fighter it’s just filled with a lot of pansy ass woke commies.

I think some of it is the fact that gambling on the games has become easy and wipe spread. A lot of the losers are venting because their brackets were busted, etc. This on top of what has been said above about the toxic nature of Twitter has made it easy for the nightcrawlers to come out.

You’re right, so far as you go. But you don’t go very far.
If anyone thinks paying players will stop this, they’re dreaming.
If anyone thinks paying them will make it ok with the players for idiots to light them up after bad plays or losses, I doubt that, too.

Paying players has nothing to do, in my mind, with the unfortunate coarsening of society, or the anonymous jackasses who enjoy seeing people fail, or who hold others to standards the jackasses wouldn’t dream trying to meet, and delight in piling on as fast and as hard as possible. I find it hard to imagine any reasonable person finds this ok, regardless of their views on player compensation. I don’t know who you think yells at their employees like that and gets away with it. Maybe I missed your line of thinking.

I have Twitter, but it’s a very narrow range of follows, and I have no interest in followers. I can’t do Facebook. Just can’t handle it. Instagram and Tiktok, get off my lawn.

People objectify the people they see on TV and project their biases onto them. It’s the unavoidable, nasty flip side of a media presence. If 2% of the people posting on Twitter are sociopaths, that’s almost 2 million people. And those narcissistic assholes just mash the send button all day long, so they’re over-represented.

Been enjoying the hell out of that modified Rem 700. Steady ringing a four inch plate at my 100yd backyard range. Glad I bought plenty of ammo when it was cheap. Three months wait to have it threaded for suppressor.

With a set of ‘pods (Highly recommend) practice and a good rest you can paint dimes with it a lot further than that. I didn’t ask the other day, what kind of barrel does it have?
I ran up on a deal a couple of years ago. I was looking for something to do a little “critter control” with, something quiet. I picked up a Savage 822, .22lr with a mated 2×7 scope and a threaded barrel. The scope is zeroed at 100′, with tics on the vertical out to 300’. If it’s still out hitting spent .20 gauge cases on the primer at 300′ is easy.

It’s the heavy, not bull, barrel. Basically an M40A3 with a Leupold 3.5-10 scope instead of the Schmidt & Bender the Marines use. It’ll get on out there accurately with good ammo.
That Savage .22lr is effective critter control for sure. With CCI Stingers and proper shot placement it’ll take out most anything up to and including nuisance does.

It’s a lot of fun to shoot. I put a green light on it for night work, and that’s really fun. I guess I’ll have to apply for a suppressor permit. I’d love to see how quiet it can be.
I picked up a single malt today. I’ll try it later to compare it to JWB. Same price range.

Green light and laser is much less aggravation than all that NODs shit. Speaking of aggravating, the process for procuring a suppressor is a big ol pain in the ass. It’s worth it when you experience how quiet that Savage will be with the right ammo. Avoid the advertised subsonic as it’s too weak to be effective. CCI Standard works just fine. It will occasionally crack the sound barrier according to weather conditions, but mostly it’s quieter than a pellet rifle.
A good 12 year old single malt such as The Glenlivet or Glenfiddich is hard to beat. I have a few bottles on a floor bar. That’s right. The floor. Big Dave G out in Kaliforniastan suggested that. He said the only thing that sucks worse than losing power after an earthquake is being without a drink because all your bottles were shook off the bar and broke on the floor.

What I don’t understand is how my kids can be sitting on the sofa, talking and looking at me while typing 100 words a minute with their thumbs on that little iPhone screen?

College ball players aren’t really like students.

If a student gets called a “bitch azz n*”, they go on with their life and nobody in the world cares about.

But pampered players get their fee-fees hurt and go on a social media whine-fest.
