Early SEC win projections

247Sports’ Brad Crawford and Bud Elliott have combed through every schedule in the SEC this spring to project each team’s win total that will be announced by oddsmakers later this year. These are simply guesstimates and may not reflect the numbers from the experts in Vegas when those are released…

And here’s how they breakdown the win totals for all fourteen teams (links to schedules):

If your first thought was “welcome back, cupcakes!”, well, you’re not wrong.  There are more than a few embarrassing non-conference schedules sprinkled in there.  But there also seems to be some optimism about improved personnel with a few of those teams that I’m not sure I share (on the other hand, I kind of wonder if they’re underselling LSU just a little bit).

And if you raised an eyebrow about those Ole Miss numbers, check out the schedule.  The non-conference slate is Louisville, Austin Peay, Tulane and Liberty; the crossover games are against Tennessee and Vandy.  Even with a bad defense, 8 wins isn’t much of a stretch for Junior’s team.

What do y’all think this far out?

On Ole Miss, Liberty and Louisville are toss ups at best for Ole Miss.

I hate auburn. I seem to hate them even more when everyone overlooks them.

I’d take the over on Georgia at that number. I can see a loss to Clemson. I have a hard time seeing another loss this early on. Doesn’t mean we won’t have yet another headscratcher this year or be crippled by injuries along the line, but if I were betting I’d take the over.

aTm is an interesting one. Bama should be a loss. Crossovers are Mizzou and USCe. At LSU to finish the season. OOC are cupcakes other than Colorado at Mile High Stadium (which I still think aTm should win).

I’d bet the under on UF at 9.5. I wouldn’t touch it if it was at 9.

UT is an odd number at 6 (and probably an odd number at 5.5). UGA, UF, Bama, UK, Ole Miss, and Mizzou should all be losses. With that team in shambles, would you bet money that out of Pittsburgh, Bowling Green, Tennessee Tech, USCe, South Alabama, and Vanderbilt they don’t stumble one or two more times? FFS, they lost to Georgia State and BYU when “they were on the way back to greatness.”

The west should be good viewing this year. Lots of parity behind Alabama, lsu, and A&M. And LSU and A&M aren’t good enough to just roll over the rest.

A&M has to break in a brand new QB, right? That usually isn’t a recipe for success. And LSU had a hot QB for a while didn’t they when the other one was hurt? Did the new one flame out?

I was spoiled last season. The SEC league only schedule was the best thing to come out of COVID regarding football. I really dont like cupcakes nor do I like our home schedule this season. Ill bet Im not alone when it comes to realizing my presence is not required just because the cupcake is being served at noon.
I see Auburn struggling to get over .500 this season. Of course I could be blinded by my personal belief that #Auburn Sucks fits any thread regarding that cesspool on the plains.
LSU is going to surprise people just being really good or very disappointing is what's unclear for me. There does not seem to be much middle ground for coach O.
Until Jimbo beats Bama and wins the West I
ll keep believing he is over rated as a coach.

I think they underevaluated Mizzou too.—8 or 9 wins IMHO. And pray tell, exactly how do you win half a game?

“..Mullen is an excellent GameDay coach…” The writer missed those 4 gameday losses apparently.
