There was nothing earthshattering that came out of yesterday’s après scrimmage presser (not that I expected anything like that). But, I gotta admit this exchange made me chuckle a wee bit:
QB competition behind JT Daniels…
“All three of those guys are getting reps and all three of them are really good players.”Elaborate more on that?
“Uh, yeah, all three of them are getting reps and all three are going to be really good players. They continue to work hard. They all got reps today…”
I think we found some shit Kirby doesn’t have time for.
Like the rest of us, as Kirby gets a little older he gets more patient for some things, and less patient for others.

Can’t say anything else right now, because he wants to keep the guy most likely to transfer (Beck) in house as long as possible.
Regardless, whomever wins the competition next season, Beck or BVG, the other guy likely headed out into the portal faster than a speeding bullet.

I was thinking something very similar. I think coming out of Spring practice you might see one (and I agree it would be Beck if any) hit the portal. If not, I feel better about how Monken and Smart are managing the room.

What would he have said differently if transfers were impossible and why?

My opinion is that Vandagriff is the guy. He’s the one Monken had a hand in recruiting. What’s going to be really interesting is what happens when Stockton gets to campus.

Stockton said he is a dawg and doesn’t mind waiting. He cited Mac Jones success as an example.

I really hope that wasn’t just a response to a recruiting analyst or a reporter (I think Fields said similar things).

He said that right after he committed. He’s all Dawg.

If you are gonna transport, ya better have a resume to go…remember, you are a Ding away from being the starter….

Speaking of which, Clemson’s backup QB ruptured his Achilles yesterday.

I don’t know. Beck is one injury, covid scare, or off field transgression from being the starter after next year.
Beck has all the tools to be extremely successful as the starting QB, and he will likely get plenty of mop up duty this season to show off what he can do. I would have him penciled in to start the fourth quarter in plenty of games this year, (Vandy, Mizzou, USC, Tennessee, and UAB) I would like to see Stetson get the curtain call during the last two games of the year, he deserves as much. Let him play out the fourth at the last home game and on the road against Tech.

The problem I have with this is when has Kirby EVER let the backup do anything more than hand-off the ball in fourth quarter mop-up situations?
Unlike Saban or Dabo who let all their backups continue to run their offense so they get good in-game practice, Kirby only ever hands the ball off and almost never allows the backup QBs and WRs run the actual offense in mop-up duty.
So no, if history holds and it likely will, Beck won’t get any valuable work at all. Neither will Bennett or BVG. It’s simply not who Kirby has shown us he is for five seasons.
