Ari, when if ever will Georgia Tech be able to recruit similar to Georgia?
Chaser.
When will Georgia Tech be able to recruit like that? Never. That’s not a slight on Georgia Tech. It’s just the reality.
And there will never be enough Waffle House coffee in the world to change that.
They gave up that possibility when they left the SEC.

UGA should have dropped them at the time too…

Bobby Dodd’s decision to pull GT out of the SEC left the Jackets wandering in the wilderness for the next couple decades. I wonder if Tech’s switch to the triple option (and Paul Johnson’s attendant apathy toward recruiting) will have a similarly long-term effect. It may have been what Tech needed at the time to jump-start their way out of the Chan Gailey doldrums, but from what I can see, it left a lot of people around the country—and potential recruits, more importantly—with the impression that Tech was a gimmick program content with seriously competing for a conference title maybe once a decade. And that’s not a reputation that’s easy to dispel no matter how many kicky hashtags you invent or “branding gurus” you hire. Geoff Collins is virtually assured of recruiting better than his predecessor because he 1) doesn’t run a niche offense and 2) gives a shit, but he’s got a loooong way to go before he can convince the country’s blue-chip recruits that signing with the Jackets will take them any further than the occasional Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

I think his other problem is it’s still an open question of if he’s a decent coach. His Temple teams were worse than what he took over, but Matt Rhule’s clearly a pretty good coach, as his results there, at Baylor, and now in the NFL back up. To me, Geoff looks like a dollar store Dan Quinn — built a defensive rep working under better defensive-minded HCs, and then get known for being a rah-rah guy who speaks in slogans and “money downs” when your defense gives up 52 in a half at home.

Doug, I would caution against throwing off on Duke’s Mayo like that in this forum!!!!

Besides the 404 hat that pic of Collins suggests he has been having too many meals at WaHo. But this was the best part: “…the Yellow Jackets don’t need to sign five five-star prospects in a single cycle to make it more competitive in the ACC.”

Agree on Collins, however, sadly a solid percentage of Americans look like him or worse. I watched a few clips of Full Metal Jacket the other day, and private pyle was ridiculed to no end for being fat in that movie. As I was watching it, I thought to myself, in this day and age he wouldn’t be considered anything out of the ordinary at all. That’s how badly as a society we’ve regressed when it comes to health in recent decades.

With that said, I would implore anyone who is interested in improving their overall health to please look into the no sugar, no grains (nsng) approach and/or a keto diet philosophy. Americans exercise more than ever yet we are fatter than ever, and a horrid western diet is to blame.
As we are finally starting to see Covid rapidly decline, please remember that around 2k Americans die every day (700k yearly) from heart disease, or more than the total number of estimated Covid deaths we will experience in one year. Cancer is very close behind, and poor diet/health is thought to be the cause for a high percentage of these deaths.

Id say no sugar, no processed food (no chemicals) . People have ate grains for 3000 years.

They sure as hell didn’t eat the processed grains I’m referring to that come in a box or bag.

It’s more like 5000 years, but that being said, I had a lot of trouble with that no grain idea too. I did a lot of research on the subject there is a lot of evidence to suggest grain and more so refined grain are very inflammatory. Cut them out of my diet and most all of my “old man pains” went away.

Well grains are significantly different than just a century ago, and a ton of chemicals are poured on them. I dont know how true it this os, but read once about a study having people eat old school Italian wheat and didn’t have the reactions. Im a huge believer in purity first, and its hard to do and expensive. So many chemicals. And also huge believer in healthy gut science.

My GAS meter doesn’t really move at the thought of it, but I wonder, would it be all that hard to build a roster that would at least be comparable to Wake Forest? NCST? UVA? That’s all he/they/whomever should be setting their sights on.

I don’t think they’ve signed five 5-star prospects in their entire history (I think Calvin Johnson might be there only 5 star, period.)

2 star here, a 3 star there, an actual 3.27586 star signed recruit, it all adds up after awhile…there will be some 5 star WH grads in there, when nerdfootball needs a filled to the brim Mark Richt Stadium, they schedule UGA football for a couple of fun time hours with CKS….any questions, dial the 404 hotline and place an order togo…

You’re right, except I wasn’t referring so much to his girth as his general lack of color. Looks like he hasn’t eaten a green vegetable in forever. Probably doesn’t even eat the lettuce and tomato they give you with the hamburger. I guess, technically, scattered, covered, smothered hash browns do have potatoes and onions in them, but still, when the food on your plate is best described as “beige” you end up looking a bit like a ghost.

Does Geoff Collins actually have a neck? All the pictures make it look as if his head sits directly on his shoulders!!!

He definitely looks like he is permanently constipated which is a look that Paul Johnson had as well. It may be something in the water or is caused by trying to drum up interest in the “404” Brand there in Atlanta. If he were to somehow go 10-2 before they fire him mid-fall 2023 what kind of job would it take to make him leave Tech? I think he would leave for any of the better ACC jobs and any SEC job except Vandy.

Totally disagree, why would he NOT leave for the best SEC football program in Tennessee? 😉

It says it all when you have to use gimmicks in order to recruit…like Waffle House cups, or having your entire team pirouette in Halloween costumes like you see in really bad community theater productions of HAIR or some other bullshit. Have at it big G…go apeshit…rocket the GT brand straight into the shitter, I don’t give a rip…rambling wreck from GT and a heck of punchline…you do u.

He had a good first year recruiting, but fell back dramatically last year. They had better start winning and soon. If he finishes .500 or lower this season, then next year is make or break for the guy. They gave him a 7 year contract, but that means nothing to kids. If they program doesn’t start north by the end of year 4 and I mean significant jump in wins and excitement, then they will become the Vandy of the SEC.

GT always uses their superior academic standards as the reason they have trouble recruiting. Google “10 toughest PUBLIC colleges to get in to” and you will find UNC, UVA, and UCLA near the top. Each of those schools is ahead of GT in difficulty to get in to AND in recruiting and most years ahead in the final rankings. I guess the question is will GT ever recruit like UVA and UNC since they are in the same conference and by 3rd party review, more difficult to get in than GT. As for them ever being in the same universe as UGA in recruiting? Derek and Corch agreeing on politics would have a higher probability.

Eh, those other schools have more Rocks for Jocks classes than Tech–if you even have to go to class (see UNC).

Tech must have some of those Jock classes as well. They had QB that couldn’t even count to 4

Tech has plenty. You can get BS(?) in Music, or Public Policy, or History of Technology, just to name a few. Joe Hamilton and Reggie Ball matriculated there, plus who was the guy that flunked out here and wound up at Tech?

I can’t think in terms of never when it comes to tech.

Well….that’s actually not true. Georgia has to slip some first. Also, Tech has to up its game on the field. Do more with less. If Tech could become competitive with Clemons, and for years Tech beat Clemons like a drum every year, Tech could become what Clemons is now in the ACC. When Tech joined the ACC the expectation was for Tech to win that conference in football most years. But AA and AD mismanagement doomed those expectations. Here’s how Tech can get back to the top. First, hire the best AD in college sports and give him whatever he wants as far a $$ and hiring authority. Second, that AD needs to make a home run hire as Techs football HC. Who? I’m not sure but does anyone reading this think Tech would have had the record it has had the past 15 years if Tech has hired Urban Meyer or Nick Saban as its HC? Then obviously recruit, recruit, recruit. There are plenty of athletes who would love to play and attend college in a major city environment like Atlanta. Plus, the state of Georgia is LOADED with talent. Tech’s problem is administration. Now will Tech leadership figure this out and correct it? NOT A CHANCE!!!
