Delusions of grandeur

C’mon, Gus.  Have you really thought this through?

I’m not sure “fun” means what he thinks it means.

Gus probably has the best record against Bama in the Saban era… just sayin’

I remember when FSU thought this was a good idea and hasn’t been heard from since.

I imagine he does think it would be fun. He knows how to give Saban fits on D. He could game plan in a way that never actually threatens a win but keeps it close enough that he can crow that UCF can play in any league. That’s the point of that program. They’re in it for the bark, not the bite.

That was leading an instate rivalry where these kids are going to hear about it for the rest of their life. Taking nothing from Gus, but I don’t think he has remotely enough time to put together enough talent to get on the same field with Bama. Add to it that Saban has a l-o-n-g memory, and would likely like to punish the school who claimed a “co-national championship” during one of his national championship years and… put a beat down on Gus?

It’s one thing if you inherit this schedule. Then man up and play it. But to invite this upon yourself is not a very bright thing to do…

No… Go line up UF and FSU and Miami and play those boys and try and get to that level first and claim to be a state champion…

The funny thing would be that UCF screwed around and somehow won the game.

Concerning UCF’s inflated opinion of itself, how ironic is it that Gus was responsible for failing to pop that balloon? And now he’s holding the balloon and daring Saban to pop it.
That said, I can understand anybody’s desire to compete against the best.
While at Florida Atlantic, Kiffin kept finding ways of getting attention.
      And it paid off.
While Gus doesn’t have the charisma of Jr., he does know that a game against Bama (or any top program), if he can keep it close, will catapult him into the conversation of coach searches.
It’s like predicting South Carolina will win the east. Everybody forgets the absurdity of it unless it happens..then you’re famous (for a while).
On the other hand, maybe Gus has gone into the Coach Cutcliffe mode and is just going to have some fun while making a better living than most of us can imagine.

Is UCF going to hold out for a Home and Home? I thought they were just a big and bad as the Power 5 teams and demanded the same respect?

So typical of Bama to play a cupcake…they schedule 3 OOC’s like this every year.

  10. Why schedule it? That will be the #1 vs. #16 playoff gem everyone has been clamoring for any way.

Why not? Nothing to lose for Gus. Great PR for him and his new program. He knows 100% he can’t win, but a decent showing would go a long way. Gus is kinda growing on me now that he’s not on our schedule every year.
