Today, in roster management

Apparently, Daran Branch is no longer with the team.

A day after making two big-time additions in the form of cornerback Derion Kendrick and pass catcher Arik Gilbert, DawgNation has learned that defensive back Daran Branch is no longer a member of the Georgia team.

Branch is no longer listed on the Georgia roster as provided by Georgiadogs.com and has not been for some time. Branch also was not a participant in Georgia’s spring game either.

The redshirt freshman appeared in just one game as a freshman, registering a tackle in Georgia’s win over Missouri.

Georgia landed Branch out of Amite, La., after he flipped from Ole Miss on National Signing Day in the 2020 recruiting cycle. Branch was the No. 675 ranked prospect in the 2020 cycle.

Branch becomes the third defensive back to leave the team since the end of the 2020 season, as cornerback Tyrique Stevenson transferred to Miami and Major Burns transferred to LSU.

I wonder how long TE’s like Goede and Seither stick around.

When an All-American transfers in that happens to play your position, not sure anyone can blame you if you start wondering about your options. From what I’ve read about Branch today, though, I don’t think this is necessarily tied to Gilbert coming to Athens. It sounds like he’s been considering giving up football completely on more than one occasion and has also been away from the team for quite some time. I hope that he’s OK and makes the right decision for his future. I’d hate for him to close the door on the sport, but if that’s where his heart is then I wish him well. He was a signing day flip from Ole Miss to UGA due in large part to Coach Luke coming to Athens after being fired. It’s possible that Athens just never was home for him despite the relationship with Coach Luke.

Best of luck to him. I hope he shows up at LSU and helps them beat the shit out of the lizzards.

In the end, you just have to play well enough to make a roster spot. You have to approach the game knowing you’re good enough to do that. It’s what every walk-on has in his mind and it’s how you play the game that matters. The decision to stick it out and learn more from the coaches and practice that it comes down to….is wearing the Red and Black enough?

There are more kids in the portal than there are schools wanting to give schollys. It’s a tough business making money and the kids are gonna find that out via the portal or the NIL$$$$. High school kids better watch out cause they are the next in line to feel the pain. UGA only gave out 20 this year and next year who knows. They are still hiring at Arby’s.
