The road to the CFP

… is paved with a regular season schedule so weak Ohio State can mock it.

Granted, they’ll likely pick up either Miami or North Carolina in the ACCCG, but still, that leaves a lot to be desired.  (Although it’s not Clemson’s fault the ACC’s depth blows this season.)

      Its absolutely ridiculous that FSU can’t at least be as good as UF.

      • When people would ask me why do you pull for FSU (in the Bowden days), I would always say the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Sure, we lost some South Georgia recruiting battles (especially southwest) to the Noles, but a strong FSU has typically been an offset to the Handbags.

          I used to like FSU, but it’s hard for me to cheer for them after the way they handled Winston.

          • I totally agree. I detest Jimbo Fisher because of how he handled Crab Legs. The fact the school didn’t step in spoke volumes. When Oregon beat them senseless in the 2014 playoff with Winston looking horrible, I enjoyed it.

          Absolutely. Even Miami could hurt UF in recruiting if they could get their shit together. I’m expecting both of them to have down years again. Odds are King won’t be 100% and FSU has been a shit show for a loooong time.

          I live in North Florida and I just don’t see the FSU fans I used to back in the Bowden era. I see more AU, UGA, and UF fans here nowadays. I don’t know if they are too embarrassed to fly their colors or there are less of them than I think there should be.

    That is why the Clemson-Georgia game is so much more important for Clemson than it is for Georgia. Dawgs can still lose and make the playoff by running the table and winning the SECCG. If Clemson loses to the Dawgs, with that SOS, they at least open the argument that they aren’t playoff worthy losing to the Dawgs early and having no one else with a pulse until the ACCCG.

      I think the only way a loss to Georgia alone keeps them out is if it’s a blowout victory or Georgia ends up completely out of the mix in the SEC (i.e. Florida wins the East and Georgia loses to Auburn while several non-Alabama teams like A&M and LSU are clearly better than us). Otherwise, their recent pedigree will get them a shot unless they’re fighting undefeated major conference teams for that spot. The only real threat to them otherwise would be a 1-loss (non-SEC Champ) Alabama).

        I don’t necessarily disagree that their pedigree might get them a shot, but I guess what I am pointing to is if Alabama has one loss to Georgia in the SECCG and tOSU and Oklahoma run the table there is going to be a major, heated conversation about whether a 12-1 Clemson deserves to get in with their schedule over a 12-1 Bama team that played Georgia (that already beat Clemson), aTm, LSU, Florida, Miami, Auburn, etc. That conversation might even play out if tOSU and/or OU are one loss conference champions. You could make an argument that their pedigree might have a bit of rust after getting blown out last year by tOSU.

        Because you know if Clemson loses, Dabo will spend the next 12 weeks whining about how tough the ACC is, and how disrespectful it is to keep THE ACC CHAMP out of the CFP, and “heck I don’t know what we have to do to get some respect here”…

      12-1 Clemson is in, no question….many pointed this out yesterday, their schedule is a joke, allows them to be fully rested and healthy at years end.

        Fat lot of good it did them last season, the overrated media darlings. They’re like Notre Dame if Notre Dame fans were ALL assholes.
        Fuck Clemson. I’m taking Georgia to cover with a sneaking suspicion it’s Georgia by two scores +.
        Turn the Dawgs loose, Kirby…

    Is our regular season schedule any better? Other than playing Florida you can probably say the same about us.

    Honestly, if Tech is 48 and in the mix with middle of the road ACC teams, Coach 404 should take a polish victory lap, I guess….

    Pretend you are the selection committee.
    Georgia has one narrow loss to Alabama (SECCG).
    Clemson has one narrow loss to Georgia (But are ACC Champs).
    You would have to say that a loss to Georgia is more understandable than a loss to Alabama…and that Clemson’s schedule was tough enough to make the difference.
    That’s the biggest load of bullshit since Herbie went back on his own doctrine.
    If Clemson loses to Georgia…they have no other game to point to for redemption. That ACC trophy is worth less than a Georgia HS Class A region championship trophy.
    Clemson can thank the kid that tossed the shoe at UF (FTMF) for getting in last year. Florida (FTMF) was a better team.

    SP+ rankings of SEC opponents:
    Arkansas = 41
    Auburn = 28
    Florida = 12
    Tennessee = 49
    Kentucky = 57
    Missouri = 58
    Vandy = 108

    Add in SECCG opponent that is probably #1, but at minimum is significantly higher than Miami or UNC.

    This is why Clemson can lose the first game, let Uiagalelei get hurt, and still waltz into the playoff with the 2 walk-on frat guys they have backing up Uiagalelei.
