Yes, I get the fact that Daniels got to feast on some mediocre to outright bad pass defenses in his four starts. I do. But I also get that he did that after missing nineteen months because of a serious knee injury, followed by additional surgery, with a new team and new offensive coordinator (who himself had a limited amount of time to install a new offense).
Maybe we ought to cut the kid a little slack. Just sayin’.
(By the way, not all the media is dismissing Daniels.)

My counter-argument to the “but the teams he faced were so bad tho” argument is to point out our history of needing a 4th quarter break through to win a low scoring game against similar bad competition before JT. Past Kentucky and USCjr games are good examples of slobber knocking 4 quarter contests against vastly inferior talent.
A superior team with a high octane offense should try to win the game outright in the first quarter. This is what Saban has been doing the last few seasons against bad competition: try to be up 35-0 early in the 2nd quarter. If you can do that (especially on the road), the other team and their fans hang it up.

IIRC, that is exactly what spurrier did with his fun-gun offense as well as fsu back in the day. they’d be up two touchdowns before you had taken your first sip of beer. from there it was “catch me if you can” mofo.
I don’t think i have ever been so eager for a UGA football to start and see if we can finally put it all together as all the pieces are in place for a championship run.

I also believe JT will be grand and do cut him and really the whole program slack for last year. Not exactly a normal season for them with the opt outs before the season started. It was fun though, loved the SEC only games.

Learning a new playbook, coming back from injury, a patchwork O-line in the bowl game, a million opt outs in the bowl game (was there another NY6 team that had as many opt outs than we did??), etc…
Oh and it was Cincinnati’s superbowl. They came ready to play.

He looked real good. Trying to prove he sucked or was mediocre is kind of dumb but he didn’t look like the second coming of Joe burrow either. We’ll certainly find out real quick this year.

With all of our O talent, he doesn’t need to be great, just good. And an OL that can keep his Jersey clean.

Daniels UGA sample size works both ways. Enough there to nod enthusiastically. Enough there to tilt your head and rub your chin.
He’ll be fine. He’s not going to carry a flawed team to a national title, but he doesn’t have to. He’s not QBing a flawed team. He’s demonstrated elite talent, partially realized. He’s growing into it.

Excellent point about him not having to carry a flawed team. The “stack the box and dare him to throw” idea will be a recipe for disaster for opposing defenses as will playing nickel or dime packages the whole game to take away the passing game because there is no run game threat.

18 won’t get to high or to low, surgeries will cause you to stay grounded…when given that second chance to shine, 18 has and will continue to shine, 18 can see whats in front of him, whats on the plate and probably likes WTF he sees…is UGA football the best it can be, WTFK’s, what would be really funny is for UGA to claim the title and 18 comes back to make a point about QB’s being one and done (after titles won)….

JT just needs to take what the defense is giving him and let his WR’s, TE’s and RB’s do their thing with the ball. Don’t get carried away with the bomb.

Maybe one of the stat guys can put their finger on this more easily than I can, but if I remember correctly, while JT games weren’t against the best defenses, I thought that Georgia outperformed the norms that those defenses allowed- meaning even if they were good Ds, we had more success against them (especially in the passing game) that most of the teams they played. If that is the case, then IMO, that speaks well of JT and the Offense in general.

^^this^^ (and also Who TF is the Taylor report anyhow?) — the passing #’s in those games were substantially better than their season averages (and outside the bowl game, the standard was set against all SEC competition). It’s not a panacea, but it’s not nothing to recognize the necessary context.

This, a thousand times. Although I am willing to look at High School success, frosh success at USC (as a High School Senior essentially), and the games he threw for 300+ that season being legit Ds.
300+ vs. Notre Dame, Texas, UCLA.
Anyone dismissing JT Daniels, the 2017 Gatorade National Player of the year (over Trevor and Justin, etc.), as a HS Junior, simply doesn’t know quarterbacking.

I can not give a rat’s ass about a third party questioning JT. All of it is hypothetical whimsical conjecture. Hypothetical whimsical conjecture is how SoCar fans convince themselves every year is their year. The games have to be played for us to know anything else. This is the only thing I know for sure: JT is my QB until he shows me otherwise, or, God forbid, gets hurt. Meanwhile, I am optimistic. Very optimistic.
