Interesting tidbit from Pete Fiutak’s Clemson preview:

Only two teams hit the 200-yard rushing mark against the Clemson defense last year – Notre Dame and Ohio State. Those were the two losses, and they were the only time all year the Tigers allowed over five yards per carry.

The 2019 team didn’t allow over 200 rushing yards to anyone, but the only time it gave up more than five yards per crack was to Ohio State in the epic Fiesta Bowl and to LSU in the national championship loss.

Those two 200-yard rushing days against the Tigers were the only time anyone got to the mark since Alabama did it in the 2016 national championship – Jalen Hurts had something to do with that. Before that, Louisville ran for 273 thanks to some Lamar Jackson guy.

Over those same two seasons, Georgia cleared 200 yards rushing ten times.  They won all ten games.

Outside of the opener against Georgia, be shocked if anyone can get close to 200.

Clemson’s got the d-line to try — do the Tigers play to stop the run and make Daniels beat them over the top?  Does Monken take what he’s offered?

according to some gtp commentators, running is so archaic/old man ball so why even worry about it?

Clemson Schedule the last two years. The 200 Yards rushing is an impressive state, until you look at who they have played over the last two years. Not doubting that the D-Line is the real deal, but let’s be honest. Not too many offenses witih running attacks that have you shaking in yo8ur boots.

Hey Senator, seems like this topic may have slipped by a few days ago? Division less SEC on the horizon? Pod scheduling in posturing for the playoffs.

Yes, please: Auburn, Florida, South Carolina every year, then rotate the rest. I’m for it.

It’s the only way we get to have 14 teams and any sense of being one conference. I’m sick of this absurd 12 year rotation of West teams not named Auburn.

My guess it will be a great chess match as Monken tries to put the ball where Venables defense is weakest. Two top shelf coordinators both working with excellent players. I’m very much looking forward to the weekly ride this season.

If Clemson’s run defense is any better than Cincinnati’s we may not have any positive rushing yards at all.

This will be the most challenging test.thus far for Monkin as UGA’s OC. Clemson DC Brent Venables is as good as they come.

    • Except when Venables can’t steal the signals. Hopefully, CKS plans around that.

when stealing signs he looks like other worldly, when he can’t then he is average as insta-grits

I thought OSU’s game plan was fantastic vs Venables last year. That was the game equalizer, mix tempo, and plays out of formations you haven’t previously run. I really thought they negated the sign stealing and formation based defensive play calls effectively. I am sure Monken watched that game a lot when designing the game plan.

History shows the most consistent way to beat Clemson is to run for 200 yards. Curious if Venables is going to use MSU and Cincinnati approaches vs the interior O-line with lots of slanting and stunting. I guess Kirby and Co are aware as there seemed to be more stunts vs the 1st team O-line than I remember from previous G day games.

C’mon man…The flavored ones from Quaker are actually pretty good. Not homemade by any stretch but fine for an office microwave or backpacking.

Good point. It is true that the “cull factors” become much more inclusive when I’m drunk or hungry.

The brown sugar and cinnamon packs with the proscribed amount of canteen water mixed and sealed in a ziploc bag stuck in a cargo pocket made for a warm snack when movement took precedence over meals.
Being a grits snob ain’t always practical.

If one does have the time, this is my favorite: bring 1 part chicken broth, one part water to a boil, add stone ground grits, cook until done. Finish with a splash, or two, or five of heavy cream, butter and cheese. Season to taste. In my humble opinion gives mashed potatoes a run for their money as a side and goes great with seafood or…. anything.

A few weeks ago my wife and I spent the night downtown. Looking for breakfast, we ended up at “The Flying Biscuit” over by Piedmont Park. I was impressed enough with their biscuits. grits, and sausage to try and replicate the recipes.
Biscuits: Use bacon drippings and buttermilk, ice cold from the fridge
                  Grits: CharlotteDawg is dead on
Sausage/gravy: Find sausage seasoning you like online, fresh grind the meat, season overnight. Brown and roux for gravy.
                  Mimosas with fresh watermelon juice…
Had it yesterday with the fam for Fathers Day. Good Stuff.

Yeah, I’d eat those grits. The stone ground part along with the heavy cream satisfies the snob in me. I like Charleston Favorites Stone Ground Grits brand, though it’s hard to beat those from the mill in Helen.

Talking grits is a peculiar pleasure, Munsoning. Grits are (is ?) one of the things that separate the Southern boys from the rest of the country. I saw my bud from UCDavis go from turning his nose up at grits to wolfing ’em down after a few weeks living on C-rats in the field.
I’m glad to see grits gain a position of respectability on the menu of some of the finer dining establishments.

  10. If I’m Venebles, I’m jamming the LOS and edge rushing JT plus middle stunts. Our receiving Corp is unproven. Monken should be able to respond with tempo, slants, Cook on screens and Smith in the slot. A couple of deep shots and we could be up by 3 scores early in the 2nd and watch Dabo implode while Zeus and Milton run wild in the 4th.

Only thing that stops us is early turnovers and we get down early ourselves. This game should be electric from the opening KO.
