Chuck’s amuck.

Ladies and gentlemen, dare I say it, but these are pretty damned sweet.

There’s a 15% discount when you sign up for your first purchase (email account), so the price compared to Nike’s usual offerings is pretty decent, too.

UPDATE:  By the way, you can customize the hell out of these.  Click the box on the right side of the page and go to town.

Use to think that the shoe was nicknamed after Chuck Connors since he also had a brief NBA career…..until one day someone corrected me.

    Boy, that was embarrassing….

    Thanks Bluto!

I can’t remember the last year I bought a pair of Chucks. I think the first pair I had was in 1968. They even claim I’ll have them by opening weekend.

Take it from me, your ankles will thank you for not wearing them. Chuck Taylors were just about all I wore for a couple decades. They were the favored basketball sneakers (no one ever called them ‘shoes’) in their heyday. Still have an original good condition American-made pair collecting dust in my closet.

So do I. Got a pair of black ones in 1986, that’s about when they hit a second wave of popularity and were offered in a multitude of colors. The girls would mix and match pairs. The cool part about my pair was I got them at an old-school, third generation, small town dry goods store. They didn’t even have any on display, but I asked the owner if he had any. He happened to have several pairs in the back in black or white only. It was all new old stock that had been back there over 20 years. He sold them to me for less than ten dollars, but when he found out they were popular again he put them out on display, raised the price to the going rate, and sold out.

I’d look like Ronald McDonald wearing those size 14s.

So, apparently the 15% off code doesn’t work for these custom orders? That’s usually what I find with these sign up discounts. The discount only applies to the crap nobody wants.

  11. I showed these to my 17 year old daughter and she is pretty stoked to buy a pair. Apparently you can customize the colors, ex. all black with red tongue.

Yeah, I thought that would be cool for a hot minute, then I did those customization and they looked like effing bowling shoes.

      • You guys missed the best part of customizing… the last choice is stitched lettering on the back flap. I’ve ordered a very tasteful ‘FTMF’ to go there.

HAHAHA! Nice! I saw that, but didn’t really think about it because they didn’t have a good font.

I went with a pair of red (for game days) and a pair of black (for everyday wear, hah!), but switched up the stitching for better contrast. They may be a little plain, but Chucks are sorta supposed to be plain.

I also bought tickets for the NATS game today. FYI for everyone else: If you want tickets to the game, the best prices are buying them directly from the Bugs themselves. Don’t go on StubHub. Buy them from the NATS Athletic site, and you’ll get them at half the price, and you’ll be able to choose your individual seats so if you want to sit on the aisle, you can.

See y’all on the West Side Upper Deck at the Joke By The Coke!
