Now here’s a narrative I can get behind.

Hey, he’s just asking!

And asking…

It’s probably portal time in Gainesville.

Mullen must not have shown them the video of his dance.

Gainesville is the Starkville of North Florida. Or maybe guys realize the horror of 4 years of Dancing Danny, day after excruciating day, is not what they want out of life. 🙂

    • Totally agree, anyone who’s broken down and ended up in Hogtown quickly realizes it isn’t a “destination” location….it’s drive by Ville on your way to Tampa or Orlando…toss in Dopey the Dipshit Clown and no one, especially elite recruits, want to bunk down there.

Dan Mullen has the reverse Midas touch. So sad.

Sir, so sad is not what the FU hc is, king of the transport port-o-let is a warm feeling for him, having no crootin’ skills is his motto, trending towards embarrassing some power brokers in hogtown is a really good thing for his image, having video evidence that the FU hc is border line cringe worthy is beyond good, that’s friggin’ great…whether recruits come to UGA football or not is one thing, they always speak highly of their experience….at FU, recruits just don’t…..hangin’ half a hundred on FU is one thing, outscoring FU by 50 is how it’s done…(in any sporting event)…#FTMF

    It’s beyond narrative:

Right now they are behind Marshall and Vandy and one spot ahead of yech.

    • Wow – they can’t even make the case that it’s quality over quantity. The Handbags really have neither at this point in the cycle.

      • ericstrattonrushchairmandamngladtomeetyou

Actually, they’ve got commitments from six 4-stars. No 5-stars and down in overall numbers. They can continue to field a good team if this only happens once and all the 4-stars turn out good. A couple of recruiting cycles like this or if the 4-stars turn out to be busts and no amount of “portal mastery” will save the handbags.

I agree with Al Davis (shudder) that Kiffin is pretty much a joke, and so it is hard to see him being a successful coach; however, he appears have the ability to really relate to recruits/players which is a significant (and seemingly growing in importance each day) part of the job these days….

Mullen just needs more time to develop as a recruiter. He’s only been an SEC head coach 13 years after all.

I think the writing is on the wall. Dan is destroying the program. His goofiness and silly stuff that he thinks makes him look cool really just makes him look childish and reckless. The Darth Vader costume, his ridiculous antics during the fight with Missouri, etc. etc. Highschool kids are young, but they’re not stupid. They don’t see a program or a coach that is elevating his school to greater and greater heights. They won the SEC East, but ended the season with a three game losing streak, including getting prison raped by the sooners. Meanwhile, we ended the season as one of the hottest teams in the country, and we just opened up our new, bazillion dollar weightroom and facilities upgrade to the world. The top recruits see the direction the schools are headed and they’re going to want to head to a school that has a realistic chance of consistently winning the NC and there’s only a handful of schools in that club right now….us, Bama, Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio St and a few others that are real close….LSU, Notre Dame, Oregon, Texas A&M and a maybe two or three more. The Gators aren’t among the elite anymore and the gap is only going to widen.

They have had a rough week. Running back that they got on late, that Utau was on early appears to have landed to sticking with Utau. Apparently mom doesn’t think too much of the UF staff (something you tend to hear more than one might think). He’s a 3 star running back named Jason Glover. He’s from Polk County. This is Gator country, where is is assumed that if the Gators ask – you go.

A 3 star linemen that they have been on for quite some time was down to them and the Gus bus. From the Orlando area and ended up committing to the Gus bus. And it got out that the UF staff was spamming his phone. Here’s the article:

When Mullen took the job, FSU was an absolute mess, Miami was trying out CMR and Central Florida while doing well really wasn’t taking recruits that UF really wanted.

According to 247, with plenty of time still left, SEC recruiting looks like this so far this year:

    BAMA – 2
    LSU – 5
    Georgia – 6
    A&M 12
    Carolina – 16
    Arkansas – 17
    Mizzou – 21
    MSU – 23
    UT – 27
    UF – 28
    Vandy – 31
    Kentucky 34
    Ole Miss 50
    Auburn 53

    *. FSU is 8th
    *. Miami is 47th
    *. Central Florida is 60

Keep in mind that there is a long way to go, for example Penn State has the #1 class in the country, but that is because they have 23 commitments, the average rating that class has says they’ll end up around 10th. There are a couple of others in the top 5 that will fall back as well.

Here’s the thing, Florida’s average rating is sitting right where it has since Mullen got there, and that rating has gotten him right around 10 (just under or above the last couple of years) – in other words he didn’t get a ‘bounce’ based off last year and he continues to struggle with offensive lineman.

Get spanked by Georgia and Bama during the season, lose to LSU and then fall to say a Missouri and ole boy is it going to get interesting in Gainesville. This class could actually drop back to around 15.

Let all that happen and boy will it get interesting in Gainesville, especially with a $12.5MM buyout.

We met Hevesy during my son’s recruitment. He is a knowledgeable guy but arrogant. We actually liked him but you could tell he was going to turn some guys off. Also UF’s football facility is old right now. They are building a brand new massive place but it’s not open yet. The campus is nothing to write home about. Add in Dan Mullen’s antics – who it pains me to say was great with us but also seemed to make a lot of assumptions – and Florida’s recruiting stats the same.

    • bigjohnson1992

Auburn at 53 is also revealing.

  11. practicaldawg

Mullen knows that if you don’t recruit top classes, you avoid the annual “it’s now or never with all the talent he has” talk that Kirby has to deal with.

Mullen is a bit like Paul Johnson IMHO. He has skills as an offensive football coach in his system but he doesn’t know shit about defense and he is personally so obnoxious that he turns off recruits. FU is bound to be on a downward trajectory long term because with him at the helm, like Georgia Tech with Paul Johnson, recruiting will suffer.

perhaps sideshow’s bride has been down with covid and unable to ‘help’ recruit?

True quote from a big Gator fan I know. Have you ever noticed how much North Florida and South Georgia look alike?

    • jcdawg83

North Florida has always been an extension of South Georgia. The state line should be moved down to the latitude of St. Augustine.

I’ll go you one further. I submit South Georgia and North Florida become the 51st state.

The land of camo and squatted trucks. Yee yee, indeed.

          Interesting thought process.

If we’re gonna do that, because that will have “Georgia” turn very blue, we then should split California into 3 states (North CA above San Francisco a VERY red state, CA from SF to LA a very blue state, and South California from “The o.c. to the border a purplish state) allow Eastern and Southern Oregon to secede from the Portland area like they want to and join Idaho to become one of the biggest states in the union, just to balance everything again.

So the old states are Georgia (blue), Florida (purple), Portlandia (blue), Greater Idaho (red), California (blue),

And three new states are Georgida (red), North CA (red), and South CA (purple). At that point, might as well as Puerto Rico (blue) for an even 54. And fuck D.C., they never get to be a state.

      From a ditch lizard..
      Not from a South Georgian!!

  16. I think a quote from one of my all-time favorite TV shows, Justified, applies here. “If you run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. If you run into assholes all day, you’re the asshole.” Dan Mullen sure seems to be running into a lot of assholes who are turned off by his program.

It occurs to me that he’s very much like Paul “The Genius” Johnson. Neither care(d) about stars or recruiting class ranks, because their system/smarts could make a winning team out of a bunch of 2-3 star recruits. He’s a Porsche with a 4 cylinder VW engine.
