Musical palate cleanser, comes in colors edition

If you watched this week’s episode of Ted Lasso, you know why I’m playing this.

Their Satanic Majesties Request was supposed to be the Stone’s Sgt Pepper but Rainbow and 2000 Light Years were really the only decent cuts. The Lenticular cover, now that was something! I imagine if you had an original it would be worth something.

Actually, my stepdad does have that album with the cover. I had it for years at my place until I moved overseas.

And I binged the first 5 episodes of Ted Lasso season 2 just today. The Bantr/Grindr and John Holmes jokes had me rolling.

I know. I have the said the same thing. But a few moments later I will think Coach is my favorite character, or Nate, or Ted, or Sam or Keely, etc. The only really loathsome characters so far are Rupert and Jamie Tart’s father. And I guess you need those guys for texture.

When does Season 2 end? I’ll sign up for a month of Apple TV to binge watch it. The show is really good. It has to be for me to end my Apple embargo.

Got, I was going to say this in my own words, but couldn’t do better:

Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso, an American football coach who led the Wichita State Shockers to a Division II National Collegiate Athletic Association championship. He is hired to coach AFC Richmond, an (English Premier League) association football team. A folksy American, he is seen as unsophisticated but is smarter than he looks.

The premise of the show is that two American fooball coaches go to England to coach a Premier League football squad, with all of the absurdity of things lost in translation. I was surprised at how good the entire cast is and how wickedly funny the show is just around the edges. The show makes a conscious effort to be kind, which sets it apart these days. And there are at least 72 f-bombs per episode, usually by Roy Kent.

In many, many ways it is Bull Durham, but with soccer (okay, futbol) as the back drop.

Season finale is October 8. There are 12 episodes this season, according to something I read on the interwebs, so it must be true.

We watched episode 6 twice because I am too slow to pick up all of the brilliant references. Great show.

Should be 3-4 weeks before season ends, assuming 10 episodes this season. New episodes air on Fridays. I think it’s @ 7 of 10 this week.

I take it all back, OCT 8 is end date.

“Unlike Season One, the second season touts an extra two episodes, bringing the count to a grand total of 12. Knowing what they’ve got on their hands, the first (and only the first) episode dropped on July 23, with one episode coming out every Friday until the season finale on October 8.”

I was expecting something from Don Everly or Tom T. Hall today… may they R.I.P.

  5. Love that song, and I’m happy they still work it into some set lists. Like any band or artist with a huge catalog there is going to be a huge chunk of the same material every tour and every show. It’s great when the Stones throw in something like this or Moonlight Mile or Sweet Virginia, or McCartney adds Letting Go or Mrs. Vanderbilt.
